As a seasoned StarCraft 2 veteran with countless battles under my belt, I must say that the Terran Battlecruiser is undeniably one of the most formidable units in the game. The sheer power and versatility it offers are unmatched, and mastering its build path is essential for any aspiring Terran commander.
As a dedicated StarCraft 2 gamer, I can’t help but marvel at the diverse roster of units each faction commands. From economical and entry-level troops to the high-end, game-changing super units, the choice is always strategic. For instance, the Terrans have two heavy-hitters that rule the battlefield – the ground-pounding Thors, and the sky-dominating Battlecruisers, which clear a swathe through enemy forces beneath them.
Battlecruisers dominate any fight and have the ability to jump around to any location on the map in seconds to deal targeted blows to your enemy. Here is the build path you need to follow to build a Battlecruiser.
How To Build A Battlecruiser In StarCraft 2
At the beginning of the game, as a Terran player, you’ll receive a Command Center and twelve Workers to start with. To construct Battlecruisers later on, you will first need to build these specific structures:
- Supply Depot – 100 Minerals
- Barracks – 150 Minerals
- Factory – 150 Minerals and 100 Vespene Gas
- Starport – 150 Minerals and 100 Vespene Gas
- Tech Lab on a Starport – 50 Minerals and 25 Vespene Gas.
- Fusion Core – 150 Minerals and 150 Vespene Gas
For the optimal progression of your game, it’s advisable to establish a Refinery atop a Vespene Gas Geyser since many of the later buildings rely on it. However, the ideal timing for constructing one in the early stages is subjective. Once you’ve built the Fusion Core and have a Tech Lab still attached to a Starport, consider using that Starport to manufacture Battlecruisers.
- 400 Minerals
- 300 Vespene Gas
- 64 seconds to build.
These units take quite a lot to build, but their overall stats and abilities are well worthwhile.
How Strong Are Battlecruisers In StarCraft 2
Battlecruisers are equipped with multiple guns capable of targeting both airborne and ground-based enemy units simultaneously. They can maintain their fire while moving, too. These vessels boast a total of 550 health points, and they come armed with the Tactical Jump ability from the get-go. After every 71 seconds, Battlecruisers can instantaneously teleport to any point on the map, regardless of visibility, in just a few moments. To unlock the Yamato Cannon upgrade, you’ll first need to conduct research at the Fusion Core. Once activated, it unleashes a potent blast after 2 seconds that inflicts 240 points of damage, making it an effective tool for eliminating even the colossal Zerg insectoids.
Players must manually engage each Battlecruiser’s Yamato Cannon, aiming them towards specific enemies, to simultaneously unleash multiple shots.
The base stats for Battlecruisers can be upgraded in an armory to make them even more deadly. Below are their base stats and the fully upgraded stats.

Battlecruisers can also be repaired by any SCV at the expense of minerals for each hit point restored. This can be done in or out of combat, just as long as the SCV can get directly below the Battlecruiser.
