The Sims 4: Every Job From Past Sims Games That’s Still Missing

The Sims 4: Every Job From Past Sims Games That's Still Missing

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of The Sims, I must say that each iteration brings unique career opportunities for our digital alter egos. While reminiscing about my journey through the various games, I find myself drawn to certain careers that resonate with my life experiences, and others that seem like a distant dream.

With a history spanning more than two decades, The Sims has offered numerous career paths for players to explore personally. Regrettably, certain careers from earlier versions are yet to appear in The Sims 4. While The Sims 4 has introduced exciting new jobs that have been well-received, Electronic Arts (EA) and Maxis might want to revisit these previous careers when brainstorming new ideas. However, some of these careers may be better off forgotten. This article aims to help The Sims team decide what elements should stay and which ones should be discarded.

Furthermore, certain occupations that were absent from earlier versions of The Sims series are not included here as they have been represented in some capacity within The Sims 4. For instance, the fortune-teller career debuted in The Sims 3: Supernatural has been replaced by the freelance medium career in The Sims 4’s Paranormal Stuff Pack.

The Sims 4 Could Add These Missing Careers

Acrobat and Circus

In the games The Sims 3: Showtime and The Sims: Unleashed, you can choose careers as an Acrobat or Circus performer. Interestingly, although clowns are present in The Sims 4, no circus-themed downloadable content (DLC) has been introduced yet. Introducing a circus pack to the game could be an exciting expansion.

Band

In “The Sims 3: Late Night,” a job path focused on talent and skill was introduced, known as the Band career. Unlike other careers in the game, these skill-based jobs allow players to work independently. While players can pursue the Entertainer career’s Musician track in “The Sims 4,” they don’t have the option to join a band explicitly. A Pop Star expansion pack could be a perfect fit for “The Sims 4.

Dance

In the expansion pack FreeTime for The Sims 2, there’s an option for a Dance career. However, in The Sims 4, while players can make money by dancing in public, no specific career path is available for this skill. If a pack themed around dance or gymnastics is ever added to the game, it could be exciting to include a professional dance company career as an additional feature.

Firefighter

In The Sims 3: Ambitions, you can pursue a career as a firefighter. On the other hand, in The Sims 4, firefighters might show up if a fire breaks out, but there’s no actual firefighting career available in the game – neither as a place to go (rabbit hole) nor something your Sim can actively pursue. The Sims community has frequently requested that EA and Maxis consider adding this career option to future updates.

Magician

In The Sims 3: Showtime, you’ll find the Magician profession. Contrary to what the name might imply, this career isn’t present in The Sims 4. Instead, the Realm of Magic expansion introduces spell casters into the game, focusing more on magical abilities rather than illusion-based tricks. This could make for an exciting addition to DLC centered around acts like acrobatics or circus performances.

Sculptor

The profession of a sculptor is a talent-dependent role introduced in the game ‘The Sims 3’. However, painting and photography are available in ‘The Sims 4’, but sculpting is still absent. Introducing sculpting as a skill in the game would be exciting, although it’s plausible that the sculptures created would be sold through shops or on the hot bar, rather than having a specific career tied to it.

Sports Agent

In the video game “The Sims 3: University Life,” there’s an option for the career of a Sports Agent. Interestingly, in “The Sims 4,” the Athlete career doesn’t include a Sports Agent track. If Electronic Arts (EA) and Maxis were to enhance sports-related play in “The Sims 4” through DLC, a Sports Agent career would make an excellent addition to the game.

The Sims 4 Could Leave These Careers Behind

Adventurer

In “The Sims 2: Seasons,” you’ll find the career path for an Explorer, or as we might call it, an Adventurer. These characters embark on a variety of exciting missions, ranging from action-packed relic hunting like Indiana Jones to battling pirates at sea and even voyaging into space. However, it appears that this profession may not be carried over to “The Sims 4” as the Jungle Adventure Game Pack introduces a similar hobby instead of a full-fledged career. Moreover, the Jungle Adventure Game Pack primarily focuses on the Indiana Jones-like aspects of the Adventurer career, leaving out other types of adventures that were previously offered.

Animal Care

In the video game “The Sims: Unleashed,” there’s an exciting profession called Animal Care. This career spans ten levels, starting from “Dog Walker” and culminating at “Animal Magician.” Compared to the animal careers available in “The Sims 4,” the Animal Care career in “The Sims: Unleashed” offers a broader range of experiences. “The Sims 4” has a more focused approach, taking the ninth level of the Animal Care career, Veterinarian, and making it a standalone profession within the game.

Art Appraiser

The Art Appraiser career is available in The Sims 3: University Life. It’s a ten-level career with two branches – Acquisition and Appraisal. Similarly, The Sims 4’s Painter career has a Patron of the Arts branch which essentially acts as the game’s version of Art Appraiser.

Astronomer

In the game “The Sims 3: Into the Future,” there’s an option to choose the Astronomer profession. This career consists of ten levels with two paths – Astrophysicist and Space Explorer. However, in “The Sims 4,” the Space Explorer path was swapped out for a new career called Astronaut. The revamped Astronaut career incorporates many aspects from the original Astronomer career’s gameplay, which might make it redundant to include it in “The Sims 4.

Crafter

In The Sims Castaway Stories, you’ll find the Crafter career option. Unfortunately, in The Sims 4, they’ve introduced various workstations each tied to specific careers, which effectively rules out the addition of a Crafter career since it’s no longer applicable.

Game Development, Gamer, and Video Game Developer

In The Sims Life Stories, The Sims 2: Seasons, and The Sims 3: University Life, you’ll find three distinct careers. Interestingly, while the Computer Engineer track in The Sims 4’s Discover University Expansion Pack and the base game Tech Guru career are available, they do not encompass game design – an aspect that could have been seamlessly integrated. Regrettably, it seems unlikely that this career will be added as an update.

Hunter and Gatherer

In The Sims Castaway Stories, you can find careers based on hunting and gathering, which are centered around the game’s concept of Sims stranded on a deserted island. Unfortunately, no such career expansion pack has been developed for The Sims 4, meaning it cannot be added unless the game introduces similar downloadable content in the future.

Hacker

In the game “The Sims: Livin’ Large,” there’s a career path called a Hacker, and in “The Sims 4,” developing the “Programming” skill can give your character abilities that are similar to those of a Hacker. Interestingly, within “The Sims 4,” the Oracle branch of the Criminal career essentially functions as the Hacker career.

Oceanography

In the FreeTime Expansion Pack for The Sims 2, there’s an option to pursue a career in Oceanography, similar to veterinarian and scientist careers but with a specialization in marine life and oceans. In The Sims 4, the closest equivalent is found in the Island Living Expansion Pack, specifically the Conservationist career, which boasts a Marine Biologist branch. “Marine Biologist” represents the sixth level of the Oceanography career.

Slacker

In the games “The Sims: Livin’ Large” and “The Sims 2”, there exists a career path known as the Slacker career. This career consists of ten levels across both games, with jobs often seen as entry-level positions such as a “Convenience Store Clerk”. Given the abundance of freelance opportunities in “The Sims 4”, some might argue that adding the Slacker career may not be the most sensible choice.

Some Simmers may find certain careers more important than others, but some career additions seem more likely than others. Nevertheless, the next DLC pack forThe Sims 4 will undoubtedly feature fun new careers for players to enjoy.
