New Star Fox Switch 2 Game Detail Leaked

Rumors suggest a new Star Fox game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, potentially releasing in 2026. According to one source, this installment will place a significant emphasis on storytelling. While the Star Fox series hasn’t traditionally been known for its narrative depth – Star Fox Adventures being the most story-driven game so far – this new detail suggests a potentially different experience for fans, offering a deeper look into the characters and their world.

It’s been a long wait for fans of the Star Fox series! The last major Star Fox game, Star Fox Zero, came out on the Wii U in 2016. While the previously unreleased Star Fox 2 was eventually made available in 2017 with the Super NES Classic Edition, that game was originally created over 30 years ago, meaning the most recent Star Fox content has very old roots.

Star Fox 2 is also playable on the Switch via a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Leaked Switch 2 Star Fox Game is Allegedly “Very Funny,” Emphasizes Narrative

A leaked upcoming Star Fox game for the Switch 2 is reportedly quite humorous, according to Alex Donaldson of RPGSite, speaking on the VGC Podcast. He suggests this indicates a greater emphasis on story and writing than previous Star Fox titles. Historically, the Star Fox series hasn’t prioritized narrative; dialogue was typically limited to quick communications between Fox, Falco, Slippy, and Peppy during gameplay, as seen in Star Fox 64. While Star Fox Assault and Star Fox Adventures experimented with more elaborate cutscenes, Star Fox Zero returned to the simpler, comms-based dialogue format.

While the game does have some genuinely funny lines – like the famous “do a barrel roll” from Peppy in Star Fox 64 – giving the characters more development and focusing on stronger writing could really revitalize the Star Fox series with this new Switch 2 game. This could mark the beginning of a new chapter for the franchise.

Even though a new Star Fox game hasn’t been released recently, the series is getting attention again thanks to Fox McCloud’s appearance in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, voiced by Glen Powell. This brief role has generated more buzz for Star Fox than it’s seen in years, and a brand-new game on the next Nintendo Switch (expected in 2026) could truly mark its return to prominence.

Nintendo has proven it’s willing to give classic characters and game series new life with improved stories and writing, as seen in games like Kid Icarus: Uprising (2012) and the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza (2025). Now that Star Fox is making a comeback, it’s likely we’ll see a reimagining of the franchise with a focus on funny, well-developed writing and storytelling.

The leaked Star Fox Switch 2 game is allegedly targeting a Summer 2026 release.
