Strategy and Wargaming News – 5 April 2026 – MicroProse Mega-Announcements, Xenonauts 2 Full Release, Broken Arrow Free DLC, and Much More

The strategy and wargaming community has had an incredibly busy week! April is starting with a huge wave of news, even more than March. We’re seeing the return of classic franchises like MicroProse and Heroes of Might and Magic, significant updates to existing games, and tons of new downloadable content – it’s a lot to handle!

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era April Release Date

Fans of classic fantasy strategy are in for a treat! Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era will be available on Steam Early Access starting April 30th. The game aims to recapture the feel of the beloved third installment, but with updated features, a fresh art style, and modern improvements. It’s shaping up to be a major release this month, and early previews (like the one I saw in September 2025) were incredibly promising.

Broken Arrow: Baltic Battalion Free DLC

The new Baltic Battalion DLC for Broken Arrow is available now, and best of all, it’s free! This update lets you play as the combined military forces of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. They feature unique European gear and excel at quick, strategic attacks rather than overwhelming force. The DLC adds a fast-moving deck that you can mix with any existing U.S. deck for new and interesting gameplay options. After trying it out, it’s definitely worth a look – especially considering it doesn’t cost a thing!

MicroProse Announces Gunship Origins

MicroProse, the famous game studio, is bringing back the thrill of classic helicopter combat with Gunship Origins. This new game aims to recreate the feel of 80s flight simulators but with updated graphics and technology for 2026. Players will pilot recognizable helicopters like the Apache and Blackhawk, progressing through a career from Warrant Officer to Colonel and earning rewards in realistic and detailed environments. Gunship Origins also offers 8-player co-op, letting players work together inside the same helicopter. The game’s graphics look impressive, and it will be interesting to see how well it blends realistic flight with accessible gameplay.

Battlefield Commander WWII Out Now

Okay, so I finally got my hands on Battlefield Commander WWII, and it’s pretty awesome if you’re into tactical, ground-based combat. It’s made by MicroProse and Sword of Steel, and it’s all about thinking strategically, not just how fast you can click. The campaign is set in Eastern Europe and you’re not just commanding troops, you’re managing everything – production, keeping your soldiers happy, and dealing with tons of different units. Honestly, if you’re like me and think a lot of modern RTS games are a little too fast-paced and chaotic, this one’s definitely worth checking out.

Commandos: Origins – No Man Left Behind DLC

I’m really excited! Kalypso just dropped the details for the next Commandos: Origins DLC, and it sounds awesome. It’s called ‘No Man Left Behind,’ and it’s all about a risky rescue mission in France while it’s occupied. We’re getting four new missions to play, and there’s a new enemy type to watch out for – a Radio Operator who can call in a whole lot of trouble if you don’t take him out quickly! It’s launching on April 28th and will cost around €14.99, £12.99, or $14.99, depending on where you are. Plus, there’s a launch discount – 10% off on Steam for two weeks, and a week on the Epic Games Store, which is great!
