One Piece Chapter 1179 Review: Saint Imu Nerona Appears

The latest chapter of One Piece, Chapter 1179, has delivered a huge surprise: the long-awaited appearance of Saint Imu Nerona, the series’ ultimate villain. After hinting at a journey from the Holy Land of Mary Geoise, the chapter confirms Imu has arrived in Elbaph and will be the main antagonist. This marks a historic moment for the series, setting the stage for a dramatic and potentially devastating conclusion to the Elbaph arc.

Eiichiro Oda Unveils His Final Antagonist

The most significant moment in One Piece chapter 1179 was undoubtedly the first appearance of Saint Imu Nerona on the island of Elbaph. Before Imu arrived at the Warland, the Five Elders pleaded with him to change his mind. They requested either to be sent to fight themselves, or for an Admiral to be dispatched immediately to deal with the growing threats of Loki, Luffy, and the Giants. However, Imu was resolute in going to the Warland alone and causing destruction.

Usopp calling him a coward likely struck a chord with Imu, which may have motivated their journey to Warland. However, it’s also important to remember that Imu had to take matters into their own hands because Domi Reversi failed in their attempts with Nika and Nidhogg. As fans anticipated, Imu finally appeared in Elbaph, and their debut as the final villain of One Piece certainly delivered on the hype.

Breaking Down The True Character Of Saint Imu

Chapter 1179 of One Piece surprised fans with the reveal of Imu’s design. There was a lot of speculation about Imu’s gender, fueled by the character’s initially ambiguous silhouette and echoing voice. The latest chapter definitively confirms that Imu is male, resolving the long-standing debate among fans.

Imu has a striking appearance with white hair, tanned skin, and numerous tattoos. They wield a large, bisento-style weapon and appear to be using their Devil Fruit powers. Imu also possesses large wings and a pointed tail, features that were visible when Gunko transformed. Notably, Imu began to bleed as soon as they arrived on Elbaph, hinting at a possible physical ailment or vulnerability.

One Piece 1179 Showcases Imu’s Strengths And Weaknesses

It’s obvious Imu chooses different bodies to demonstrate their strength. We saw this 38 years ago at God Valley with Saturn, and again on Elbaph with Gunko. But the danger posed by Nika and Nidhogg was so great that Imu had to go to Elbaph in person, which is risky. Even with this weakness, Imu’s power should be more than enough to easily defeat the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies.

Oda also revealed the power behind Imu’s Devil Fruit. Surprisingly, Imu doesn’t have a typical Devil Fruit; instead, they possess “The Devil Fruit” – often translated as “the fruit of the devil.” This implies Imu’s fruit is the strongest of all, with powers that are nearly impossible to overcome.

Imu’s black neck ring and the immediately menacing atmosphere upon their arrival both indicate a powerful, awakened ability. Even weakened, Imu clearly intends to cause widespread destruction and defeat anyone who opposes them.

One Piece Prepares For The Final Showdown In Elbaph

Chapter 1179 of One Piece has kicked off the final events of the Elbaph Arc, hinting at a huge war to come. This poses a significant threat to Luffy and his crew. While Luffy is incredibly powerful now, he simply isn’t strong enough to defeat Imu. Even with Loki fighting alongside him, the gap in their abilities is enormous, particularly in terms of Haki. Imu possesses a far more powerful Devil Fruit and a much stronger Haki, meaning Luffy and Loki stand no chance. The upcoming battle will almost certainly result in a decisive victory for the world sovereign.

Even though Imu’s physically weakened, I still expect them to easily defeat the current opponents, and likely the rest of the Straw Hats too. It would create a similar situation to what happened at Sabaody Archipelago. Seeing Imu arrive in Elbaph feels like we’re nearing the end of this arc. This fight is huge – it’ll decide the fate of the world, but also probably wrap things up here. I’m guessing we’ll see the Elbaph arc finished within the next 10 to 20 chapters, which will then lead us into the final part of this saga – a saga that’s already been amazing to watch unfold.

Hey everyone, just a heads-up that One Piece is taking a little break next week! It was pretty much expected, though, since Oda-sensei just gave us three chapters back-to-back – what a legend! So, we’ll be waiting two weeks for the next one, which is scheduled to drop on April 19, 2026. I’m already getting hyped for chapter 1180; it’s going to be amazing and really push the Elbaph Arc forward! Honestly, I can barely contain my excitement to see where Oda takes the story, especially with the Straw Hats facing what seems like their biggest challenge yet!
