What PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Players Should Expect from Hades 2

Similar to the first game, Hades 2 will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 after launching on Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. It’s currently exclusive to PC. The sequel delivers on everything fans loved about the original, making it a must-play for those on Xbox and PlayStation.

Hades 2 takes place several years after the events of the first game, where Zagreus reunited his parents. Their happiness led to the birth of Melinoe, Zagreus’s sister, but the peace didn’t last. Chronos, the Titan of Time and father of many gods, returned seeking revenge for how the gods treated him. He imprisoned Zagreus, Hades, and Persephone, and seized control of the Underworld. Luckily, the sorceress Hecate rescued Melinoe and raised her to become a powerful and skilled warrior. Hades 2 begins with Melinoe as a seasoned fighter, completely determined to defeat Chronos.

Hades 2 Is a Better, Harder-Hitting Version of Hades 1

Sequels rarely surpass the original, but Hades 2 manages to do just that. While many great sequels, like God of War Ragnarok, simply add to what came before, Hades 2 feels like a natural evolution that’s also been completely rebuilt to be even more captivating, engaging, complex, and full of surprises.

Melinoe is a more polished and effective fighter than Zagreus. She can sprint and attack simultaneously, depending on her weapon—a significant advantage. Her unique weapons, called Nocturnal Arms, all feel fresh and original, unlike anything from the first Hades game. I especially enjoy the Umbral Flames, which are like dual torches that fire both projectiles and area-of-effect attacks, and the Black Coat, a rocket launcher paired with powerful gauntlets.

Hades 2 brings back Weapon Aspects, and they’re improved! Each Aspect significantly alters how a weapon handles and feels in combat.

The storytelling is excellent, as always, but this time the plot is a little more complex and thought-provoking because it heavily involves time travel – it even feels like science fiction at moments. The new hub area, called The Crossroads, is a big improvement over the House of Hades from the first game. It’s more visually interesting, filled with more detail, and has a lot more secrets and things to discover. For example, you can now fish and visit hot springs to build relationships with characters, instead of just hanging out with them at the tavern like you could in the original Hades.

When Is Hades 2 Coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5?

Hades 2 will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 starting April 14, 2026. Although the official price hasn’t been confirmed, it’s expected to cost around $29.99, based on its price on other systems. This time around, the game won’t be released on older consoles like the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, a difference from the original Hades.

Is Hades 2 Getting Bonus Content on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S?

Supergiant Games has announced that when Hades 2 comes to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it will include these features:

  • 120 frames-per-second
  • New quality of life improvements
  • “Bonus content”

Fans of Hades 2 are particularly thrilled about a hidden bonus coming to the game, and it’s great news that it will be available on all platforms. The developers haven’t revealed much about what this bonus is, but the trailer for the console version offers a clue. We see Heracles, a character you usually meet during gameplay, looking soaking wet. This suggests he might be one of the characters you can have special conversations with in the hot springs, which are mainly for building relationships, but aren’t limited to romance.

Some fans think Heracles might become a romance option in Hades 2, and that would be a surprising development! While it’s definitely possible, the background in the trailer where Heracles appears suggests you might connect with him in a different location than the hot springs. This could mean building a relationship with him somewhere else, and perhaps even partying with a different god altogether. We don’t want to give away too much, but this detail is worth considering.

It’s fantastic that more players will be able to enjoy the excellent roguelike Hades 2 when it comes to Xbox and PlayStation. If you haven’t started playing yet, this release could be the perfect opportunity. However, it’s highly recommended you finish the original Hades first, because once you play the sequel, you won’t want to go back!
