Gohan has returned to his place as a top-tier fighter in Dragon Ball after a period of being less prominent in Super. From the beginning in Z, Gohan’s story has centered around his incredible potential, but also his lack of enthusiasm for battle. This has often caused him to fall behind characters like Goku and Vegeta, limiting his role despite fans knowing he’s capable of immense power.
Gohan’s powerful new Beast form puts him right back among the strongest characters in the Dragon Ball universe. While we’re excited to see what future manga chapters bring, it’s interesting to consider which characters, despite their strength, still aren’t quite on Gohan’s level.
Orange Piccolo
While Gohan truly stood out in the Super Hero movie, Piccolo’s contributions were also incredibly important. He was the one who helped Gohan overcome his weaknesses and rediscover his incredible fighting power. Piccolo also had some impressive moments of his own, especially with his powerful new Orange Piccolo transformation, proving he’s still a formidable fighter.
This new form instantly makes Piccolo one of the most powerful warriors in Universe 7. While he still isn’t strong enough to beat Cell Max, he’s a major threat again, capable of fighting alongside Goku and Vegeta. We’ll need to see him in action more to understand exactly how much stronger he’s become.
Granolah
Granolah quickly became a fan favorite during the Super manga’s ‘Granolah the Survivor’ arc. He stood out with his compelling history and determination. Initially, as a talented bounty hunter, he wasn’t on the same level as powerhouses like Gohan, Goku, and Vegeta. However, a wish granted him immense strength, briefly making him the strongest in the universe and allowing him to battle even Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta.

Granolah’s power wouldn’t last, and he was eventually overtaken by Gas. However, there was a period when Granolah was actually more powerful than Gohan. Since the events of Super Hero happen after the Granolah the Survivor Saga, Gohan has clearly become much stronger than Granolah—assuming Granolah is still alive.
Gas
Even before his brother planned to make him the strongest fighter in Universe 7, Gas was already a powerful and dangerous opponent. As the Heeter family’s strongest member, he posed a significant challenge during the Granolah the Survivor Saga, forcing Granolah, Goku (in his Ultra Instinct form), and Vegeta (in his Ultra Ego form) to fight at their absolute best.
Gas proved incredibly powerful after getting his wish, even managing to fight on equal footing with Goku and Vegeta at their full strength. Still, even at his peak, Gas wasn’t as strong as Gohan is now that he’s achieved his Beast form. Although a fight between them will never happen, even if Gas hadn’t weakened and been defeated by Black Frieza, he probably still wouldn’t have been able to beat the current Gohan.
Cell Max
Cell Max had the potential to be much more powerful in Super Hero, but even at less than his full strength, he was a terrifying and destructive villain. While not as independent as the original Cell and remaining in a somewhat incomplete state, Cell Max still presented a huge threat. Piccolo’s new, stronger form wasn’t even enough to effectively fight him.
Cell Max put up a strong fight against Gohan, Piccolo, Trunks, Goten, Krillin, Android 18, and the Gammas, but he was ultimately overwhelmed when Gohan transformed into his Beast form. With Piccolo managing to restrain the powerful Cell Max, Gohan Beast charged up his own Special Beam Cannon, delivering a crushing attack that defeated an enemy both he and Piccolo doubted even Goku and Vegeta could handle.
Broly
Out of all these characters, Broly clearly has the greatest potential. When he was first introduced, he was a naturally gifted fighter who could quickly learn and improve during battles, even against opponents much stronger than himself. This ability to adapt and grow mid-fight is unlike anything we’ve seen before in the series.
Broly is a character who currently rivals Gohan in strength. He quickly became incredibly powerful, even battling both Goku and Vegeta, and holding his own against the fused Gogeta before eventually losing. As the series continues, both Gohan and Broly are expected to get even stronger, ensuring they remain two of the most powerful characters.
