What To Expect From Warcraft Rumble's PC Port

As a dedicated Warcraft fan with over 20 years of gaming history under my belt, I am thrilled to see that Blizzard is finally bringing Warcraft Rumble to PC! It’s not every day that we get to experience our favorite franchises on multiple platforms, and this announcement has me feeling like a kid on Christmas morning.

In celebration of its first birthday, Warcraft Rumble aligns with numerous other significant milestones within the franchise. During a festive Warcraft Direct event, Blizzard announced that Warcraft Rumble will soon be accessible on personal computers.

Apart from celebrating its first anniversary, Rumble has also been around for a decade as the Warcraft franchise reaches its 30th milestone. The entire series, including Warcraft Rumble, has received meticulous care and continuous updates from Blizzard Entertainment. Recently, Game Rant had the opportunity to interview art director Jeremy Collins and executive producer Vik Saraf who shared details about the upcoming PC port of Warcraft Rumble, due for beta release on December 10th.

Account Sharing

Just as Hearthstone did previously, Warcraft Rumble will provide an option for shared accounts across both mobile and PC editions of the game. This means that the progress made by players in Warcraft Rumble is saved to their Battle.net ID, making it easy for them to transition smoothly between different platforms.

In our game, most of your actions and progress are managed by the server associated with your Battle.net ID, so a lot of what you do is controlled by it. This means that whether you play on mobile or PC, using the same Battle.net ID will let you pick up where you left off seamlessly.

Collins explained the intended atmosphere for the PC version of Warcraft Rumble, saying, “It’s meant to be a game that you can start playing anywhere, continue later on Battle.net. The design aims for a smooth transition between devices.” It appears from these statements that the port is seen as a strategy to attract new players to an existing community, and keep established players engaged with Rumble frequently.

Accessibility And Graphical Touch-Ups

The game “Warcraft Rumble” won’t strive for the same level of detail as other “Warcraft” games on PC, but it will make use of stronger computer hardware to its full potential. The team was careful to ensure that the larger maps in “Rumble” can be fully appreciated, without giving an unfair advantage to PC players.

“An exciting development occurred when we decided to create a PC version of Rumble. This meant that, similar to the mobile version, we had various maps with different aspect ratios depending on the device you’re viewing it on.

Since this is the case, we can provide you with the broadest aspect ratio available for each map on your PC. While this doesn’t guarantee a tactical edge as everyone will still see the same amount of map, it does expand the borders on several maps in the PC version. This allows you to appreciate more of the artwork we’ve placed along the edges of the map, enhancing the environmental storytelling aspect that we value at Blizzard, making the spaces appear inhabited by our characters.

Collins further explained that aside from enhancing the visuals in Warcraft Rumble, they will also make certain adjustments for PC users to cater to their needs. He pointed out that due to the original game being mobile-based, they needed to alter much of the art to accommodate hover states because a cursor wasn’t used in the mobile version. He also shared that players can now press 1, 2, 3, or 4 to select and queue up the corresponding units displayed at the bottom of their screen, demonstrating the thoughtfulness put into this format shift.
