Death Stranding 2 Bringing Back Conan O’Brien

Death Stranding 2 Bringing Back Conan O'Brien

Key Takeaways

  • Conan O’Brien will return in Death Stranding 2, joining a star-studded cast including Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen.
  • Hideo Kojima’s tradition of celebrity cameos in games continues with big names from the industry like Conan O’Brien.

As a seasoned gamer with a rich history of gaming experiences under my belt, I can confidently say that the news of Conan O’Brien reprising his role for Death Stranding 2 has me all geared up! The first game was an immersive journey filled with unexpected twists and turns, and having Conan on board for another adventure is just the cherry on top.

Comedian Conan O’Brien is set to make another appearance in “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”. In the original “Death Stranding”, notable actors such as Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Lea Seydoux, along with renowned voice artists like Troy Baker, graced the cast. These stars are returning for the sequel, and they’ll be joined by Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna. Additionally, the digital likenesses of directors George Miller and Fatih Akin will also feature in “Death Stranding 2”.

Hideo Kojima often includes well-known individuals in his projects, going beyond just the primary characters of Death Stranding. The initial game was brimming with cameos, such as Hirokazu Hamamura, former editor-in-chief of Famitsu, and Geoff Keighley, who created The Game Awards. One of the most significant appearances was from Conan O’Brien, the late-night TV host and popular gamer, who gifted Sam Porter Bridges the amusing Sea Otter Hood upon completing a specific side quest.

Conan O’Brien recently reflected on his appearance in the original Death Stranding during the latest segment of Clueless Gamer, a series where he and a guest play video games together. He and regular Clueless Gamer guest Aaron Bleyaert play through a portion of Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, with Conan recalling the time he met Hideo Kojima at the Kojima Productions studio in Japan. Footage of Kojima offering to scan Conan for the game on the spot is shown before he and Bleyaert get into the game.

Conan O’Brien Is Coming Back in Death Stranding 2

Following approximately two hours of O’Brien comically navigating the post-apocalyptic landscape in Death Stranding (with Bleyaert confessing that he had never noticed Conan’s cameo in the game), Conan phones Hideo Kojima to find out where his character is located. After Kojima explains, Conan asks if there’s a possibility of him appearing in another game, to which Kojima suggests visiting Kojima Productions’ new studio for a rescan, presumably for Death Stranding 2: On the Shore.

In the video, Conan humorously proposes that he might assume a more heroic and significant character in the upcoming “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” as he felt his otter-centric persona from the first game was not as grandiose as he’d hoped. However, due to the enigma surrounding the plot and characters of “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” gamers won’t get a glimpse of Conan O’Brien’s role in his next video game adventure until at least sometime next year.
