The Strongest DBD Killers In 2026, Ranked

The terrifying world of Dead by Daylight continues with new challenges in the Fog, drawing in both desperate Survivors and relentless Killers. Chapter 39: All-Kill: Comeback surprised players by being the first chapter to skip adding a new Killer, instead focusing on a sequel storyline and a Survivor with a unique connection to an existing one. The chapter introduces K-Pop star Kwon Tae-Young, and players quickly began exploring his backstory and relationship with the Trickster, who is hinted to have played a role in Tae-Young’s fate and arrival in the Fog.

For players who aren’t interested in the story and just want fast-paced, scary gameplay, Dead by Daylight offers a wide variety of Killers. With over 42 to choose from—including both original characters and those from other horror franchises—players can recreate scenes from their favorite movies or simply enjoy the excitement of the chase. However, some Killers are clearly more effective than others. Certain characters released early in the game remain stronger than newer additions, and some of the crossover characters surprisingly outperform the game’s original villains.

10. The Dark Lord

Multi-Form Menace To Keep Up With Pursuits

Staying true to classic vampire abilities, the Dark Lord from Castlevania enters the Trials with the power to transform. He normally attacks by summoning pillars of fire with his Hellfire Spell, which is great for hitting Survivors who are focused on other tasks. If Survivors try to escape, the Dark Lord can shapeshift in two ways. He can become a Wolf for a direct attack, gaining a powerful Pounce, improved vision through Scratch Marks and Pools of Blood, and a speed boost from Scent Orbs – he can even instantly attack rushing Survivors. Alternatively, he can transform into a Bat, becoming nearly invisible except for a faint lullaby heard by those nearby, and using a quick Teleport to reposition.

The Dark Lord can change into monstrous creatures of the forest and summon magical fire, ensuring all who oppose him will face his wrath. – Official Description

The Dark Lord appears simple at first glance. His Wolf Pounce is predictable, allowing players to easily dodge it, and his Bat form can’t even attack, making his lullaby a clear signal to scatter. However, skilled Dark Lord players who switch between forms effectively will quickly win matches. For new players, mastering the timing of switching between Bat and Wolf is crucial, but it’s even more important to keep the transitions constant. Hesitation gives Survivors the opportunity they need to escape.

To win as the Dark Lord, it’s crucial to switch between forms at the right times. Use the Bat for chasing from far away, then quickly transform into the Wolf to deliver powerful, close-range attacks. Get as close as you can before pouncing to ensure your attacks connect.

9. The Singularity

Area Control And Visibility Add Unpredictability

The Singularity in Dead by Daylight is a particularly challenging Killer. Players need excellent map awareness to succeed, as the Killer relies on controlling a large area. Their ability to observe multiple locations at once is reminiscent of Cypher from Valorant or Crypto from Apex Legends, but requires a more proactive playstyle. The Singularity lacks strong direct damage abilities, so strategic map control is key. Using Quantum Instantiation, players can place up to eight Biopods around the map, allowing them to scout for and target Survivors, inflicting the Temporal Slipstream effect when hit.

It will inevitably spread, traveling across the land using a network of living Biopods.

Okay, so playing against the Singularity, if they use Temporal Slipstream, it gives them a little tell – a 3-second ‘Killer Instinct’ thing that lets you see them coming. And get this, that effect spreads to other Survivors nearby for a bit! It also opens them up to this cool move where I can teleport to whoever’s affected by it, and it even gives me a speed boost as the Killer. Now, Survivors can use EMPs around the map to stop some of the Biopods, but honestly, as the Singularity player, don’t let that worry you too much. It’s still a strong ability!

During a chase, try using Biopods instead of just following the Survivor. Place them along the path you expect them to take, forcing them to constantly change direction. Even if the Survivor disables one with an EMP, you’ll have more ready to go.

8. The Ghoul

High-Mobility Who Snowballs His Toolkit Across The Game

The Ghoul, a Killer introduced through an anime collaboration, is surprisingly effective. He’s easy to learn thanks to a natural speed boost and a simple, powerful attack. However, mastering all of his abilities takes practice, as he’s more complex than some other Killers when it comes to tracking survivors. His One-Eyed Terror ability lets him use Kagune Leap to quickly move around by attaching to walls and ceilings, and he can chain these leaps together for even faster traversal.

If you spot a glaring eye, a mix of black and bright red, above a disturbingly wide smile, it means you’ve already missed your chance… – Official Description

If Kaneki uses his Leap ability on a Survivor, he’ll severely injure them and apply a special Kagune Mark. This activates his Enraged Mode, giving him another Leap to use right away. As long as a Survivor has the Kagune Mark, Kaneki stays in this powerful mode. While Kaneki is very fast, his abilities aren’t ideal for quickly downing Survivors. Instead, he excels at drawing out fights. When facing multiple Survivors, he should focus on injuring them one after another, rather than chasing one relentlessly. This forces Survivors to decide whether to heal the Kagune Mark or risk being slowed down, creating an opportunity for Kaneki to strike.

If you can, try using the Pallets and Vaults to trick Kaneki into using his Leap ability unnecessarily. Survivors frequently use this tactic.

7. The Hillbilly

Master The Chainsaw, Master The Chase

Inspired by the character Leatherface, the Hillbilly is a classic Killer in the game, and one of the original characters. He’s known for his simple but effective playstyle: if he hits a Survivor with his Chainsaw, they’re eliminated. The Hillbilly can quickly sprint with his revved-up Chainsaw, and doing so builds up his Overdrive meter. Filling this meter significantly boosts his speed and allows him to rev the chainsaw faster. This makes him excellent at chasing Survivors, and he remains a popular choice due to how easily he can dominate in a chase.

This incredibly fast machine covers vast distances and delivers a brutal surprise to anyone in its way: one hundred spinning chainsaw blades. – Official Description

Honestly, I’m kind of relieved how difficult it is to play as the Hillbilly! That chainsaw dash is so straight and hard to steer, it’s almost a joke. If he messes it up – runs into a wall or misses a Survivor – he’s basically frozen, which means a good looper can really shut him down. I’ve learned the best way to play him is to ‘tease’ the chainsaw – tapping the button instead of holding it down. This keeps the power meter around 70-80%, letting you charge his Overdrive ability much faster. And when you know a Survivor is going to loop you, you have to time the chainsaw’s curve just right to swing around obstacles and stay on their trail.

To get around the map quickly, the Chainsaw Sprint is best. If a Survivor is likely to escape, stick with the regular Hammer attack. Only use the Chainsaw’s Overdrive if you’re close enough to definitely hit them.

6. The Twins

Trap The Survivors With Area Coverage

The Twins presented a unique challenge when they were added to Dead by Daylight because most Killers don’t allow players to control two characters at once. Players start as Charlotte, but can easily switch to her brother, Victor. Victor is a smaller, faster version of the Killer, and the core of how The Twins are played. He can find injured Survivors by spotting blood pools, check lockers, and quickly pounce on Survivors to injure them, applying the Broken, Incapacitated, and Oblivious status effects. Players don’t even need to use Victor when he’s not attached to a Survivor; they can leave him in place and continue hunting as Charlotte. Victor also has a ‘Shriek Radius’ – if a Survivor enters his area, it triggers a warning for the player, letting them quickly switch back to Victor and attempt a pounce.

Victor and Charlotte are a powerful duo that can quickly overwhelm opponents. Victor eliminates survivors, and Charlotte pulls them in, making it hard for teams to recover and execute their strategies.

The Killer’s biggest challenge is managing both characters effectively. When Victor is attached to a Survivor, control switches to Charlotte. The goal is for Charlotte to quickly down that Survivor, but Survivors can resist and briefly stun Victor. A common strategy is to have Victor stay near important objectives while Charlotte chases, then draw the Survivor towards Victor so he can use his special attack, the Pounce, reliably.

Okay, so as Victor, I’ve learned that Pounce is super unreliable if I try to use it from far away. You really need to be right up on a Survivor to make sure it connects and actually latches on. Otherwise, it’s just a wasted ability, and I’m left vulnerable. I’m focusing on getting close before I use it now!

5. The Xenomorph

Tunneling Mechanic Can Be Extremely Oppressive

The Xenomorph, a terrifying predator known for destroying space stations, has arrived in Dead by Daylight as a Killer who excels at surprise attacks. When the Xenomorph plays, tunnels appear on the maps, allowing it to move invisibly and incredibly quickly inside. It can also hear the footsteps of Survivors above ground. If the Xenomorph emerges from a tunnel, it gains an aura that reveals nearby Survivors while temporarily disabling any turrets. While hunting, the Xenomorph can enter a crawler mode, becoming harder to detect but gaining a powerful tail strike attack.

The Xenomorph is a dangerous and intelligent creature. It hunts by tracking its victims through underground tunnels, according to official reports.

The Xenomorph introduces a new element of surprise when Survivors are moving around. It doesn’t always need to chase immediately – if it’s near an important objective and has a quicker route, it can cut off players. The only way to defend against it is by using Turrets found at the entrances and exits to the Tunnels (Control Stations). Dealing enough damage with these Turrets can force the Xenomorph out of its Crawler Mode, making it an obstacle players will want to avoid or destroy quickly. Once players get used to the Xenomorph’s Tail Strike, it will be a tough attack to dodge.

The Tail Strike attack has a hidden feature: slightly turning away from the Survivor increases your chances of landing it. Imagine turning in the direction they’d likely dodge – that’s the sweet spot for a successful hit.

4. The Wraith

Invisibility Adds A Layer Of Pressure To Survivors

New players might initially think the Wraith is too simple, seeing its invisibility ability, the Wailing Bell, as its only real feature. The Wraith spends most of the game invisible and moving quickly, but can’t attack while in this state. It has to briefly become visible – a process called Uncloaking – to actually hit Survivors, and this creates a noticeable sound and animation that warns them to escape. This can make the Wraith feel awkward to control. However, skilled players can use this simple kit to become a real threat, constantly forcing Survivors to choose between completing objectives and avoiding a potential ambush.

A hit-and-run specialist, The Wraith is adept at keeping everybody injured. – Official Description

The Wraith isn’t very effective in direct chases because his abilities are easily anticipated. Instead, use Uncloak when Survivors are distracted to ensure you hit them, then switch to Cloak while following. Make them waste time healing instead of completing objectives, allowing you to consistently injure them without getting stuck in long, drawn-out chases.

The Wraith excels at quick attacks followed by a swift escape. Focus on attacking Survivors who are busy – those working on generators or assisting teammates won’t be able to react as quickly.

3. The Lich

Very Adaptable Toolkit For Easy Wins

As part of a Dungeons & Dragons collaboration, The Lich is a surprisingly strong addition to Dead by Daylight, thanks to his versatile abilities. Staying true to Vecna’s magical background, his power, Vile Darkness, lets him cast spells like Fly (to ignore pallets and windows), Flight of the Damned (summoning flying entities that damage survivors), Dispelling Sphere (disabling items and revealing survivors), and Mage Hand (moving pallets). Survivors can find random magical items to counter these spells, and powerful artifacts like the Hand of Vecna (teleportation to lockers) and Eye of Vecna (invisibility) provide a significant advantage. However, they need to be cautious, as The Lich can instantly kill a survivor while they’re trying to obtain these artifacts.

Vecna is a powerful archlich and cunning strategist who constantly seeks to control everything around him. – Official Description

Each of Vecna’s spells has its own cooldown, and Survivors can defend against them with certain items. So, learning those cooldowns quickly is key. Once you do, you’ll have a Killer who can really control how the match plays out. Using the Sphere at the right moment can expose Survivors and shut down their items, making them vulnerable. Mage Hand can eliminate obstacles, and Fly makes chasing much easier.

The Dispelling Sphere creates a lot of pressure, so Survivors will try to get rid of it fast. Use this to your advantage by baiting them into traps, then quickly switch to a more aggressive approach like Flight of the Damned.

2. The Blight

Stellar Mobility In Exchange For A Miserable Learning Curve

New players facing the Blight will likely be surprised by how quickly he can move, as he can keep pace with Survivors without relying much on his special abilities. But mastering his powers makes him a formidable Killer who can end chases swiftly. His Blighted Corruption allows him to rush in a direction until he slams into something, and this creates a window for chaining rushes to break pallets and walls or hit Survivors. The main challenge with the Blight is that he becomes slowed down (suffers from Fatigue) after a failed slam or after finishing a powerful rush, which can give Survivors a chance to escape.

The Blight can quickly close the distance and defeat Survivors, making him a very dangerous opponent. Don’t underestimate his speed and power. – Official Description

The best way to deal with the Blight is to keep moving and lead them into walls and other obstacles. Knowing the map well and quickly changing direction are key to avoiding their attacks. With practice, the Blight can quickly close the distance and land hits, particularly when using perks that create early pressure (like Lethal Pursuer), help track survivors (Barbecue & Chill), or slow down generator progress (Grim Embrace).

As a big fan of the Blight, I’ve found that timing your attacks is key! You can actually quickly change direction mid-swing – it’s like a little ‘flick’ – before the full attack connects. It lets you catch opponents off guard and really mix things up!

1. The Nurse

Easy To Learn Chaser Once Her Teleportation Kit Is Mastered

The Nurse is one of the very first Killers players encounter, as she’s included in the base game. She can be tricky to learn, which often leads players to choose easier Killers instead. But mastering her is incredibly worthwhile, because the Nurse is one of the most effective chasers in the game. Her power, called Spencer’s Last Breath, lets her Blink – teleporting in a straight line through walls and other obstacles. She can Blink twice in a row, and the distance of each Blink changes depending on where you aim: closer aiming results in a shorter teleport, while aiming upwards can help her reach different floors.

The Nurse uses her unique power, Blink, to instantly teleport across the map. This allows her to quickly anticipate where Survivors are going and intercept them.

As a Nurse main, I’ve learned that my teleport is amazing for getting around, but it’s a bit of a trade-off. I’m actually slower than a running Survivor normally, so just teleporting randomly isn’t always the best. What I’ve found really works is using teleports to check where Survivors were last seen – especially if they’re the type to double back, because that makes them way easier to hit! Or, just generally predicting where they’re going. You start to notice patterns – like their favorite loops or if they always try to double back – and then you can time your teleports to catch them off guard. It’s all about reading their behavior and being in the right place at the right time!

Players can look away while charging their TP to make Survivors think they’re going elsewhere.
