Broly Was The Strongest Saiyan Prodigy
Arc: Broly Arc
Of all of Goku’s opponents, Broly is arguably the most powerful. Even though he wasn’t a typical villain, his natural strength was immense. He exceeded even Super Saiyan Blue while still in his base Super Saiyan form, but this came at the cost of his sanity.
Broly was incredibly powerful, forcing Goku and Vegeta to fuse into Gogeta just to have a chance against him. Without Gogeta, Goku likely wouldn’t have survived. Now, Broly has become a hero and managed to control his immense power, reaching a level where he can compete with strong fighters like Ultra Instinct Goku and Beast Gohan in his Full Power Super Saiyan form.
Moro Almost Killed Goku During Their Battle
Arc: Galactic Prisoner Patrol
Moro is considered one of the scariest villains in the history of Dragon Ball. This ancient being from Universe 7 had the ability to drain the life energy from entire planets. Though other characters have stolen energy before, Moro did it on a much larger scale, eventually becoming powerful enough to fight against Goku’s Ultra Instinct form.
Moro possessed incredible power, and after absorbing Merus, he instantly gained the ability Ultra Instinct. This allowed him to fight on equal footing with Goku, who had mastered the technique. However, Moro eventually lost control, becoming a mindless beast that threatened to destroy the planet. Thankfully, the Z-Fighters assisted Goku in delivering the final blow needed to defeat him.

Granolah Managed To Supersede Ultra Instinct
Arc: Granolah Arc
I watched as Granolah took a really unique route to gaining power. He essentially traded years of his life for a wish – to become the strongest mortal around. It worked, and for a time, he was the most powerful being in Universe 7. What really struck me was how fast he became; he was so quick that he could actually bypass the automatic dodging ability of Ultra Instinct, just like Beast Gohan.
Granolah managed to defeat Goku by landing a single, powerful blow that forced him out of his perfected Ultra Instinct form, immediately establishing him as an incredibly strong fighter. Despite this, Granolah ultimately became an ally to Goku and Vegeta, assisting them in defeating a more dangerous enemy.
Gas Was A Terrifing Villain With Immense Strength
Arc: Granolah Arc
Similar to Granolah, Gas didn’t gain his immense power through training. Instead, he used the Cerealian Dragon Balls to make a wish, instantly becoming the strongest being in Universe 7 – surpassing even Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah at their peak.
He eventually became incredibly powerful, strong enough to fight all three heroes simultaneously. But this power came at a cost. His body was constantly changing to match their increasing strength, and it became so weakened by the continuous adaptation that, in the end, he crumbled into dust.
Black Frieza Is The Ultimate Villain Of The Series
Arc: Granolah Arc
Throughout the Granolah arc, people always suspected Frieza was secretly plotting as the main villain. He eventually reappeared near the end, proving to be far stronger than even Goku in his Ultra Instinct form and Vegeta with Ultra Ego.
After being resurrected, Frieza began conquering planets. He eventually discovered a world containing a Hyperbolic Time Chamber, where he trained for the equivalent of ten years. This intense training unlocked his powerful Black Frieza transformation, making him incredibly strong – arguably the strongest mortal being ever. Some even believe his power rivals that of the Destroyer Gods.
Beerus Is The Strongest Opponent Goku Has Ever Faced
Arc: Beerus The Destroyer Arc
Unlike most villains in the Dragon Ball series, Goku’s most challenging opponent is arguably the first one he faced in Super: Beerus. Beerus, the God of Destruction for Universe 7, easily overpowered Goku in their initial battle, and it was clear he wasn’t even using his full strength.
Later storylines have shown that even with his most powerful form, Goku isn’t as strong as Beerus, and the gap between them might be huge. Beerus is unique in the entire multiverse, possessing the power of a Destroyer and even a limited form of Ultra Instinct. Many fans consider him the closest thing to a perfect fighter in Dragon Ball, and Goku is fortunate to have him as an ally.
