Star Wars Eclipse Reportedly Still ‘Years Off From Completion’

According to a source familiar with the project, Star Wars Eclipse is probably several years away from release. While several Star Wars games are currently in development, details are scarce, and that includes Quantic Dream’s action-adventure title. The lack of recent official updates suggests that development on Star Wars Eclipse has significantly slowed down.

Quantic Dream, the studio behind Heavy Rain, first showed off Star Wars Eclipse at the 2021 Game Awards, but we haven’t seen much about it since. While rumors suggested the game had been in development for over a year before the announcement, Quantic Dream never confirmed this. They didn’t give a release date then, and over four years later, the original reveal trailer remains the only glimpse fans have had of the game. The developer has occasionally said it’s still being worked on, but substantial updates have been scarce.

Star Wars Eclipse Has Reportedly Made “Very Little Progress Over Months”

Sources speaking with Insider Gaming say that Star Wars Eclipse is still quite a ways from being finished – likely several years. Development has reportedly stalled recently, despite a significant portion of the game already being complete. This makes a 2026 release date unlikely, with late 2027 or 2028 now seeming more realistic – though it could take even longer.

After NetEase, a major Chinese gaming company, bought Quantic Dream, development on their new game, Star Wars Eclipse, may have run into trouble. This could be due to issues with the acquisition itself, or simply the common challenges of game development when a team gets stuck. It’s hard to know the exact reason, as there hasn’t been much public information. While Quantic Dream stated in early 2025 that layoffs at NetEase wouldn’t impact Star Wars Eclipse, there have been very few updates about the game’s progress since then.

According to a source at Insider Gaming, Quantic Dream asked for more staff to speed up development of Eclipse, but NetEase wasn’t willing to invest in expanding the team at that time. Now, after revealing Spellcasters Chronicles in October 2025, the company is hoping that game will be financially successful and generate extra funding for Eclipse. However, Quantic Dream’s founder, David Cage, insists that Star Wars Eclipse isn’t affected by Spellcasters Chronicles, leaving the potential connection between the two games unclear.

It’s difficult to predict how development will proceed without official updates, but things currently seem uncertain. The game Star Wars Eclipse experienced a similar issue back in 2024 when its lead writer left, suggesting potential difficulties. However, these concerns might be unfounded, and fans will need to wait for more information directly from Quantic Dream to know for sure.
