Pokemon Winds and Waves Fan Art Imagines Gecqua’s Evolutions

A fan artist created designs showing potential evolutions for the Pokémon Gecqua, intended for the upcoming games, and explained their creative process. They said this new artwork was a revised version of an earlier Gecqua design they weren’t fully happy with.

Gecqua is a Water-type Pokémon and the starter choice in Pokémon Winds and Waves. Its fellow starter Pokémon are Pombon, a Fire-type puppy, and Browt, a Grass-type chick. Gecqua is known for being intelligent and can shoot water bubbles from its tail. Like other Water-type starters, its Torrent ability boosts the power of its water attacks when it’s low on health. For now, that’s all the information available about Gecqua, so fans will need to wait for more details.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Fan Art Depicts Gecqua Evolving Into a Draconic Creature

Okay, so we don’t know much about the starter Pokemon in the new game, Pokemon Winds and Waves yet, but that hasn’t stopped fans from imagining what they’ll look like! I was checking out the Pokemon subreddit and saw this artist, Serbero, post some really cool evolutions for the Water-type starter, Gecqua. They called them Dracqua and Dracomodo, and they’re both Water and Dragon types, which is awesome. Dracqua looks like a super agile gymnast, able to balance on its hands, and it’s got this really cool purple and pink color scheme with light blue spots on its tail. Then Dracomodo, its evolved form, is this big, upright monster with a long tongue and a tail fin covered in these soft, pastel colors. Seriously, check it out – it’s a neat take on where Gecqua could go!

Serbero recently shared new fan art of evolved forms for the Pokémon Gecqua, building on a previous post. They reimagined Gecqua as a Water and Psychic-type Pokémon. Serbero wasn’t fully happy with their earlier evolution ideas, called Tailash and Shengong, so they created new designs, Dracqua and Dracomodo. These new designs were inspired by the Komodo dragon, a large reptile found in Indonesia. While Serbero primarily envisions Dracqua and Dracomodo as Water and Dragon-type Pokémon, they also suggest that Water and Poison could work, though some design adjustments would be needed.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Could Integrate Culture Into the Starter Trio’s Designs

Fans reacted to the new Pokémon Dracomodo, with many praising its name. There’s also excitement about the possibility of Gecqua being a Water and Dragon-type starter Pokémon – if it evolves into a Dragon-type, it would be the first of its kind available to players from the beginning of a main Pokémon game. While Feraligatr can become Water and Dragon-type through Mega Evolution, that transformation is temporary. As trainers share their ideas for what the Gen 10 starters might look like, it’s unclear how many different designs will emerge before Pokémon Winds and Waves is released in 2027.

Okay, so I’ve been thinking about the new Pokemon Winds and Waves game, and it’s set in this awesome region based on Southeast Asia. Honestly, a Komodo dragon evolution for Gecqua would totally fit the vibe and feel culturally relevant. Everyone’s already trying to predict what the final evolutions of the starter Pokemon will be, and what types they’ll end up as, but we’re just gonna have to wait and see what Game Freak comes up with, right?
