As a seasoned gamer and anime enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in various fantasy worlds, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation at the upcoming adaptation of Übel Blatt. The dark-fantasy revenge plot set in medieval times, with its emphasis on blood, violence, and the relentless pursuit of vengeance, resonates deeply with my gaming sensibilities.

A fresh trailer for the upcoming anime adaptation of the manga series “Übel Blatt,” written by Etorouji Shiono, was unveiled, providing additional details about its schedule. Originally serialized in Square Enix magazines such as Gangan YG, Young Gangan, and later Monthly Big Gangan from 2004 to 2019, the series concluded with 24 volumes.

During the 2000s, this series gained significant popularity and led to a spin-off titled “Übel Blatt Gaiden“. The animation is a joint production between studios Satelight and Staple Entertainment. Naoya Takahashi, who previously worked on “Tales of Wedding Rings“, serves as the anime’s director, while Matsuo Asami, an episode director from “Omakase! Miracle Cat-dan“, assists him. The series composition is handled by Tatsuya Takahashi, who has previously worked on “The Faraway Paladin“.

The brand new PV announces that the show is set to premiere on January 11, 2025, in Japan, and will be available worldwide through Amazon Prime Video. The opening song will be sung by GARNiDELia titled “Zainin”, while Hina Tachibana will perform the ending theme named “Stella”. Here’s a sneak peek below:

The Revenge Story of Übel Blatt

The tale unfolds in a medieval world, where a dark fantasy storyline revolves around revenge and is brimming with bloodshed and violence. Eons past, the Emperor of Szaalenden selected fourteen brave souls to battle against the sinister realm of Wischtech. Along this perilous path, three of these warriors fell victim to the hazards of Wischtech. Seven out of the remaining eleven, cowered in fear and abandoned the quest. The valiant four who persisted, including protagonist Ascheriit, completed the mission. Yet, on their return journey home, they were treacherously slain by the seven who had fled earlier. These deceitful survivors returned to the Emperor, portraying the four as traitors, symbols of betrayal and disloyalty instead.

Nevertheless, Ascheriit, now known as Köinzell, manages to survive the massacre and is determined to seek vengeance for his fallen companions. He’s prepared to take on any challenges and eliminate the “seven heroes,” who have since amassed power.

Fans Are A Bit Worried About The Adaptation

Overall, the response to the trailer has been favorable, with many expressing joy that the series is finally being adapted. Those unaware of the original series appear intrigued by the new animated version. Yet, some devoted followers have voiced apprehension regarding potential censorship issues.

As a gamer putting words to my own thoughts, I’ve noticed that the game series seems to be portrayed as less violent in its trailers compared to actual gameplay. Additionally, there’s a concern about whether explicit or sexually suggestive scenes will be included or toned down in the final release. This apprehension could stem from potential differences in content acceptance across international markets, considering that similar anime with sexual themes have been aired uncensored in Japan.

The original manga of “Übel Blatt” is authorized for English publication by Yen Press. The anime version of “Übel Blatt” will start streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video from January 10, with new episodes released each week.
