PlayStation Plus is a popular subscription service from Sony that got a major update in 2022. It combined the original PlayStation Plus with PS Now, and now offers different levels of membership. The higher tiers are similar to Xbox Game Pass, giving players access to a large and regularly updated collection of games each month.
As a longtime PlayStation fan, I’ve seen PS Plus go through its ups and downs, but it’s really found its footing now. It’s become a solid option for both PS5 and PS4 players. There’s a ton of stuff available, with different tiers to suit your needs, so I wanted to share what you should know about the service.

All The PlayStation Plus Tiers
An Overview Covering All Three PS Plus Subscriptions
Instead of offering just one PlayStation Plus subscription, you can choose from three different plans: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Here’s a breakdown of what each plan includes:
- Essential – The core PS Plus benefits as they were before the 2022 relaunch. Subscribers gain access to online multiplayer, monthly games, exclusive discounts, and a few other benefits.
- Extra – Essential tier benefits + a catalog of downloadable PS5 and PS4 games.
- Premium – Essential & Extra tiers benefits + a catalog of classic PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games.
Choosing the right PlayStation Plus tier really depends on what you want. If you only play online with friends, the Essential tier is all you need, and the more expensive tiers won’t offer much extra benefit.
The biggest benefit of Premium is its Classics Catalog, offering hundreds of retro titles in addition to the PS5 and PS4 games you get with the Extra tier. It’s important to know that PS3 games are streamed, not downloaded, so a good internet connection is needed for smooth gameplay.

Signing up for PlayStation Plus is easy, and there are a few different ways to do it.
If you’re new to PlayStation, you’ll need to create a PlayStation Network account first. This account is essential for accessing any PlayStation service, like purchasing games from the PS Store. You can create one by following this link.
How To Subscribe To PS Plus Using The PS5
The most convenient way to subscribe to PS Plus is through the PS5 or PS4 console.
- Log into the home screen.
- Navigate to the PlayStation Plus panel
- Select “Subscribe”
- Pick Essential, Extra, or Premium

How To Subscribe To PS Plus Using A Web Browser
You can also sign up for PlayStation Plus on a computer by visiting the PlayStation website. Go to the PlayStation website and scroll down to the “Choose Your Membership Plan” section. Then, pick the plan you want and click “Add to Cart.” Finally, complete your purchase by going through the checkout process.
To view and sign up for PlayStation Plus, you’ll need to first log in to your PlayStation account in your web browser. Keep an eye out for special offers for new members – they sometimes appear! The sign-up process is simple and easy to follow.
How To Cancel A PS Plus Subscription?
You might want to cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription at some point. Luckily, it’s a pretty simple process:
- On a web browser, head to the Sony Network’s Account Management page.
- From the menu’s PlayStation Network options, select “Subscription.”
- Select “Cancel Subscription” near PlayStation Plus.
On the Account Management page, players can also modify their PlayStation Plus subscription level or how often they are billed.
What Is PS Plus On PC?
PlayStation Plus Premium members can also play games by streaming them through the PC app. The available games come from both the Games and Classics catalogs, but the selection isn’t everything offered on consoles. Here’s what you need to know about streaming on PC:
- The DualShock 4 is the only confirmed compatible controller. That does not mean other controllers will not work, just that they are not guaranteed by Sony.
- PS Plus On PC is not currently available in every country that has the main streaming service.
- PS5 games cannot be streamed.
- A PS5 or PS4 is not needed to subscribe to PS Plus on PC.
- Sony recommends a Broadband wired internet connection of a minimum of 5 Mbps.
How well PlayStation Plus streaming works depends a lot on your setup, and the picture quality can differ between the PS5 console and PC. I’ve found that games stream smoothly on the PS5, but there’s a bit more lag when playing on PC.

Can PS Plus Benefits Be Shared?
As a big PlayStation fan, I’ve been looking into how PS Plus works with multiple accounts on my console. It’s good to know that even though I can only use PS Plus on one PS5 or PS4 at a time, some of the perks are shareable! Things like playing games online, accessing the libraries of games in Premium and Extra, any monthly games I’ve downloaded, and even games I’ve bought with a PS Plus discount are all available to everyone using the console. That’s a nice bonus!
Which PlayStation Plus Should I Get?
It really depends on what you want. If you only plan on playing games on your PS5 or PS4, the Premium subscription probably isn’t worth it.
The PS Plus Essential Free Games For April 2026
Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream (PS5), Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered (PS5/PS4), Lords of the Fallen (PS5)
These PS Plus Essential games will be available to add to your library until May 4, 2026.
PlayStation Plus Essential is starting to feel less important as the Extra tier gets more attention. While Sony still includes a couple of PS5 games each month, they’re often older titles that don’t generate much buzz. So far this year has been disappointing, and the games offered in April aren’t as appealing as last month’s selection. However, the games themselves aren’t bad – they’re the kind of titles that work well with a subscription service.
While not the most famous title, Lords of the Fallen stands out. The 2023 game received a mixed response – people loved its impressive graphics and large world, but criticized its boss battles, combat, and how well it ran. Initially, it was just an okay addition to a genre already full of similar games, making it hard to recommend unless you’re determined to play everything. However, the developers, Hexworks, have worked hard to fix issues and improve the game, resulting in a much better version. Now, Lords of the Fallen is a really strong action RPG that stays true to the Souls formula, but does it well enough to feel unique. With Lords of the Fallen 2 on the way, now is a great time to check out the original.
While there are other new games available this month, the biggest addition is likely Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered, which is now available to PlayStation Plus subscribers. These original Tomb Raider games are incredibly important to PlayStation’s history, so it’s great to see Lara Croft’s first adventures accessible, even if it’s just for a limited time. The first game is a standout, known for its immersive atmosphere, clever puzzles, and unique style. While it definitely shows its age, the remaster updates it enough to make it enjoyable today. The sequels aren’t quite as good, but they’re still solid games.
I recently checked out Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream, and it’s definitely the priciest game on the PlayStation Store at sixty bucks. Now, the SAO games have always been a bit hit or miss – a lot of them only really appeal to die-hard fans. But Fractured Daydream seems to be leaning even more into multiplayer, though there is a single-player story too.
What Games Are On PlayStation Plus Extra & Premium?
Most players will probably choose the PS Plus Extra tier, as it offers a large library of PS5 and PS4 games that will provide hours of entertainment. Unless you’re particularly interested in older PlayStation games or streaming games without downloading, there isn’t much benefit to choosing the Premium tier over Extra. However, players with either Extra or Premium can download and play the games listed below.
PS Plus’ game library can vary from country to country.

PlayStation Plus is offering a diverse selection of games in March, with something for almost everyone. The biggest highlight is definitely Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, the anticipated sequel that features a fun single-player or co-op campaign and lots of online content to keep you playing. While it’s been out for a bit, Space Marine 2 still has a large and active player base.
If you’re looking for a game even grimmer than Space Marine 2, Blasphemous 2 could be a good choice. This 2D action game, inspired by the Souls series, is known for its dark religious themes and difficult but rewarding gameplay. While similar games are becoming more frequent, Blasphemous stands out as one of the best in the genre, also offering satisfying exploration like a classic Metroidvania.
If you’re looking for a game to really sink your teeth into, Persona 5 Royal is a fantastic choice – it can easily take over 80 hours to complete, with a compelling story, easy-to-learn combat, and a great soundtrack. This month’s other offerings include the stylish sci-fi shooter Metal Eden, the base-building survival game LOTR: Return to Moria, and the latest installment in the Madden series, Madden NFL 26.
