Square Enix has released an update for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined on all platforms. This patch doesn’t add any new content, but it fixes a couple of problems that let players access certain areas without having the required items.
As its name suggests, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is a modernized update to the classic 2000 PlayStation JRPG, Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Yuji Horii, the creator of the Dragon Quest series, helped design the game, which features a complex class system called Vocations – similar to the Job system in Final Fantasy. This system lets players customize the battle abilities of each character. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined arrives almost 26 years after the original Dragon Quest 7 first debuted on PlayStation, following a previous remake for the 3DS in 2013.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Patch Fixes Two Issues With the Game
Square Enix released an update for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined two months after its release to address some remaining problems. Update 1.2.0, launched on April 7th for PC and Switch 2, doesn’t add any new gameplay content. Instead, it focuses on fixing issues that allowed players to bypass parts of the game. Specifically, the update resolves a problem in the Past Hubble area where players could progress past The Grand Conjuratorium checkpoint without the necessary key item.
Square Enix recently fixed a problem in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined that allowed players to access the Labyrinth of Wind without the necessary item. This previously let players skip ahead in the story and get armor earlier than intended. It’s still unclear if the newest update completely resolves these issues, or if any new problems will appear after the patch.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Remains a Divisive Entry
Although Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is available on both computers and gaming consoles, its release has sparked some debate. Before the game came out, Square Enix announced that it wouldn’t include everything from the original PlayStation version. Specifically, features like casinos and a side quest organization called the Excellence Grading Organization were removed, along with some content in certain areas like Providence and El Ciclo. While some fans were unhappy about these changes, the removed content didn’t affect the main storyline.

Even though opinions are mixed, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined remains a highly-regarded game in the main Dragon Quest series. Currently, the next installment, Dragon Quest 12, is still being developed. With ongoing updates for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, it’s exciting to see what Square Enix has planned to keep fans interested.
