A Pokemon enthusiast has designed new versions of Diglett that look more like eggs than the traditional underground mole Pokemon. These creative designs are popular among Pokemon fans, especially because they’re based on real animals.
Pokémon consistently inspires incredible creativity from its fans worldwide, who regularly create fan art, stories, and games. A popular trend is reimagining existing Pokémon with regional variations – it allows artists to build on familiar designs while still expressing their own unique ideas.
Pokemon Fan Shares Avian Diglett and Dugtrio
A talented Pokémon artist named Matratzfratz recently imagined what a Flying-type Diglett and its evolved form, Dugtrio, might look like. Their Avian Diglett resembles a nest with a single egg inside. The artist even created a funny Pokédex entry explaining that these Diglett sometimes appear at Pokémon daycares, especially when a Buneary is nearby – a playful reference to daycare eggs and Easter egg hunts. But the real surprise comes with Dugtrio’s design, which is inspired by real-world animal biology.
The Avian Dugtrio – a curious evolution featuring four Pokémon – resembles three Diglett followed by a large, Ditto-like creature. While Ditto is currently popular thanks to Pokemon Pokopia, this particular one has a darker purpose. The design is inspired by brood parasites in nature, like cuckoos, which lay their eggs in other birds’ nests, leaving the host birds to raise their young. This isn’t a harmless act, however, as these parasites often push the host’s own chicks out of the nest. Considering this, the worried look on one of the Diglett within the evolution makes sense, as the mysterious fourth member seems to view its ‘siblings’ as eggs to be destroyed.
The artist hasn’t created any more images of this design yet, but they’ve shared some interesting ideas about its potential Mega Evolution. They describe it as a unique, fourth sibling – but one that’s ‘well-fed,’ suggesting it either consumed all the food meant for its siblings or even the siblings themselves. Despite this somewhat dark inspiration, Pokemon fans are really enjoying the creativity and detail of the design.

Although making Diglett look like an egg would suit its design, the Pokémon series took a different approach when creating new versions of it and its evolved form. The Alolan Dugtrio, a regional variant, features long blonde hair and is inspired by the volcanoes of its region. Wiglett and Wugtrio, Pokémon that evolved similarly, closely resemble Diglett and Dugtrio, but are based on animals like garden eels. It makes you wonder what other real-life creatures could inspire new regional forms and similar Pokémon for Diglett and Dugtrio.
