As someone who has spent countless hours battling monsters and bosses in the vast world of Dragon Quest, I can confidently say that the Sage Vocation is truly a game-changer. The versatility and power of their spells make them an essential member of any party.
In the remade version of Dragon Quest 3, titled “Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake“, a total of ten roles, or professions, are presented. Among these, one is concealed as a secret. The Hero character takes the spotlight as the game’s protagonist, while seven other roles can be utilized to create party members in the initial town, Aliahan. This role that is often referred to as the Gadabout is an example of such alternative professions.
Reaching level 20 with the Gadabout Profession or discovering the Words of Wisdom item are two methods to unlock the Sage Vocation in the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. Whichever approach players choose, the Sage is one of the game’s top choices as it combines abilities and spells from both Mage and Priest Professions. Let us evaluate the skills that make the Sage exceptional.
7 Tick-Tock
Turn The Time Of Day
- Level: 25
As a gamer, I’d say that mastering the Tick-Tock ability is a must for any adventurer. It’s like having a time-travel power at your fingertips! With this skill, you can swiftly transition from the ominous cover of night to the hopeful light of dawn. Some creatures prowl only under the cloak of darkness, while certain shops and establishments remain hidden gems until the moon takes over the sky.
6 Cock-A-Doodle-Doo
Wake Up The Party From Sleep
- Level: 16
Status ailments are common in RPGs and Dragon Quest is notorious for using them against players frequently from normal encounters to bosses. Items or spells can quell the pain like Cock-a-Doodle-Doo. This magical ability will cure the entire party of Sleep, and enemies in this state cannot act at all.
Wise figures too can master techniques like Squelch for eradicating poison, Tingle for curing paralysis, and Sheen for lifting curses. Yet, unlike other skills, Wise ones cannot develop methods to simultaneously heal their party from these afflictions, making the ability of Cock-a-Doodle-Doo a rare find instead.
5 Multiheal
Restore Small Amount Of HP To All Party Members
- Level: 34
In simpler terms, the Multiheal spell is a powerful healing option that restores a decent amount of health to your party members. It’s particularly useful during unexpected skirmishes or tough battles. If our Sage characters utilize this ability consistently, the party should be relatively safe. That being said, there may be instances where you need to resort to Fullheal, which completely refills a character’s health bar. The extent of healing required depends on how heavily a specific party member is attacked during an enemy’s turn. To add, the protagonist in the remake of Dragon Quest 3 has an extraordinary spell called Omniheal, which combines the effects of both Multiheal and Fullheal.
4 Kabuff
Boosts The Party’s Defense
- Level: 9
Kabuff is a protective charm that boosts a group’s defense against physical attacks for a brief period. This spell is particularly useful when facing the initial boss of the game, Robbin’ ‘Ood, who delivers powerful melee blows. Additionally, the Sage vocation has other beneficial spells like Magic Barrier, which safeguards the party from magical assaults, Accelerate, which enhances the group’s speed to act before others in battle, and Oomph, which temporarily amplifies one member’s attacking power.
3 Kaboom
Blasts All Enemies With Non-Elemental Damage
- Level: 38
In the remake of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D, players might find it challenging to swiftly defeat enemies in combat. Instead, they’ll find area or line attacks particularly useful. For instance, spells like Kasizz, Kacrackle, and Kaswoosh are powerful elemental attacks that target multiple foes. However, among these, Kaboom stands out as it attacks every enemy on the screen indiscriminately, making it non-elemental. This feature ensures that an enemy won’t be able to withstand the attack and restore its health points.
2 Kafrizz
Hurl A Giant Fireball At A Single Target
- Level: 36
Area spells in the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake are fantastic, but they don’t pack much punch against bosses. That’s why Kafrizz outperforms Kaboom slightly. Instead of scattering multiple smaller fireballs, Kafrizz unleashes a single, powerful fireball that inflicts significant damage on an enemy.
It’s akin to granting a wise figure the power to hurl a stone from the sky towards an adversary, but this celestial spell isn’t as destructive as Sephiroth’s Meteor in Final Fantasy 7. The spells Kafrizz and Kaboom can be interchanged, and players can do so even during boss fights. Similarly, other high-level Sage spells like Kasizz, Kacrackle, and Kaswoosh can also be switched out.
1 Kazing
Revive A Party Member
- Level: 38
In most RPGs, bringing back fallen party members is usually straightforward, but in the Dragon Quest series, it’s quite challenging. Few items can perform this feat and they are scarce or occasionally inaccurate. Magic professions can learn revival spells such as Zing, yet their effectiveness and healing rate often vary significantly. Kazing, however, is the ultimate revival skill that ensures a deceased party member will rise again. Before players gain access to this spell, they’ll likely spend considerable time visiting churches in an attempt to resurrect their fallen comrades.
