Hitman Pulls Conor McGregor Collaboration

Hitman Pulls Conor McGregor Collaboration

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the rise and fall of gaming giants to the occasional crossover between video games and real-life personalities. However, the recent decision by IO Interactive to part ways with Conor McGregor in the wake of a sexual assault ruling is a stark reminder that the gaming industry isn’t immune to the real-world issues that plague society.

IO Interactive, the creators behind the Hitman series, have declared that they are no longer collaborating with Conor McGregor, the Irish mixed martial artist, following a decision on a sexual assault case.

Previously, McGregor’s voice and likeness had been part of a DLC package for Hitman 3.

In this downloadable content (DLC), Conor McGregor is presented as a challenging mark known as “The Disruptor.” This individual, who happens to be a skilled wrestler, can be hired by Agent 47 for termination in the mission titled “The Flamboyant Contract.

The “Disruptor” package introduced a collection of wrestling-inspired cosmetics, taking cues from Conor McGregor’s actual fighting personality.

In Dublin’s civil court, a jury decided that Nikita Hand should receive approximately €250,000 on November 22. This decision came from a case involving a sexual assault and battery incident that allegedly occurred in December 2018. (Associated Press)

IO Interactive’s Statement

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but weigh in on the buzz surrounding the uncertain future of The Disruptor DLC. With the recent announcement, it’s left me pondering what steps IO Interactive might take next to keep their fans engaged and satisfied.

This morning, the company made clear its stance via their official Hitman social media platforms.

As stated in the announcement, “IO Interactive has chosen to end their partnership with the athlete, with immediate effect

The company reiterated that they “take this matter very seriously and cannot ignore its implications.”

Consequently, IO Interactive has decided to take down all content related to the character Mr. McGregor from their collaborative online stores, starting immediately.

At the time of the writing of this article, The Disruptor DLC is no longer on sale.

Both the PlayStation Store and the Epic Games Store no longer show any listings for the item, and the old links lead to a “Page Not Found” (404) error instead.

Currently, both Steam and Xbox platforms show The Disruptor Pack as an option to buy, but it appears that the content cannot be purchased at this time.

On the Steam page, most of the feedback is solely focused on the ongoing court case and the recent elimination of the DLC, with minimal discussion about the actual gameplay experience.

IO Interactive, like numerous gaming industry players, has become more assertive in addressing issues such as sexual misconduct and harassment. For instance, earlier in the year, Twitch implemented innovative chat functions to safeguard its content creators.

Last year, major game development companies were implicated in sexual harassment investigations.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve learned that five ex-executives from Ubisoft, a popular game developer, have been apprehended by French officials due to allegations of inappropriate behavior, specifically sexual harassment, during their tenure at the company.

According to reports from the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Activision Blizzard and Riot Games were required to pay a total of $118 million as part of settlement agreements due to persistent harassment experienced by their female staff members over extended periods.
