The final season of Dr. Stone is back with its last batch of episodes, and it’s starting off well. The most impactful moment so far is a new, terrifying message from Why-Man: “DO YOU WANT TO DIE?” It’s the scariest thing the series has done yet, because the threat is both direct and unclear. Now, the focus is entirely on launching a mission to the moon, as seen in the episode “FIRE,” and Senku Ishigami is determined to make it happen.
The episode “FIRE” isn’t as exciting as you might hope – it’s more of a comforting watch than a thrilling adventure. While it has some good moments and a nice sense of nostalgia, it feels a bit slow and repetitive. This episode largely retreads familiar ground from Dr. Stone, and doesn’t offer much that viewers haven’t already seen.

The first part of the “FIRE” episode isn’t very strong and doesn’t build up to the exciting title. While the opening scene isn’t bad, viewers might question if it’s necessary. This half of the episode focuses heavily on comedy and everyday life, and while Dr. Stone benefits from its lighthearted moments, there’s simply too much of it, especially this late in the series. With so much at stake, a large cast, and a significant mission for Senku, this type of scene feels out of place.
It’s good to see the crew of the New Perseus experiencing the local culture, as Dr. Stone has always been about exploration and valuing different societies. This positive approach fits the show’s style and adds a nice touch to the episode, but it felt a bit drawn out. The message could have been delivered effectively in half the time – a quick montage during the Spanish segment would have sufficed.
This episode focuses on a few main things: Ryusui’s renewed interest in building wealth, increasing the number of people working for the Kingdom of Science, and the discovery of fluorite. Plus, Francois gets to cook some new dishes using olive oil! Most of this is pretty easy to follow, although the science behind fluorite could use a little explanation. The rest is just enjoyable filler – we already understand Ryusui’s economic views and Francois is a great cook. While Dr. Stone needs to advance the story, it takes a little longer than expected to get there in this episode.

Dr. Stone Season 4, Episode 2 Ends With Fire and a New Mission
Ryusui and Senku Bring Flames and Math Into the Equation
While Dr. Stone is driven by scientific breakthroughs, it also needs relatable characters and humor to create a well-rounded anime. The show has already done a great job establishing its characters and providing laughs, and the current final mission – facing Why-Man – is particularly thrilling. Because of this strong foundation, Dr. Stone should focus on bringing the story to a satisfying conclusion in these last few episodes. The episode title, “FIRE,” isn’t particularly impactful, but the latter half of the episode does offer some exciting moments.
The story pits Senku against the challenges of a transformed world, where remnants of the old civilization and the forces of nature constantly hinder his progress. Over the past 3,700 years, the Earth has changed dramatically, and Senku continues to face unexpected dangers that make this new world feel truly threatening. Currently, the Suez Canal, a symbol of the fallen human world, is blocked, preventing the New Perseus from reaching India. This issue and its resolution are presented clearly in the “FIRE” episode, offering a good obstacle for Senku without overcomplicating the story.
The model rocket proves to be the solution, offering a clever scientific approach that lets Senku, Ryusui, and even Dr. Xeno overcome their current problem. Chelsea also plays a part, using her knowledge of geography and a telescope to remain a valuable member of the New Perseus crew. The whole sequence feels like a classic shonen battle – the heroes work together to deliver a powerful attack, and it’s effective. Senku’s rocket and the New Perseus’ speed easily overcome the massive natural dam at the Suez Canal, making for an exciting victory.
The recent episode, “FIRE,” cleverly signals that Senku’s large-scale plans won’t overshadow the main story. He’s already close to finishing his current goal, with the mathematician he needs within reach. This is good for Dr. Stone, as it guarantees enough time to show the rocket being built and tested before the moon mission begins. Even with some unnecessary scenes, Dr. Stone is generally well-paced, and it seems likely to improve even more as the story progresses.
