New PS5 Controller Has an Oversight That You Can’t Unsee

A few PlayStation 5 owners are reporting issues with the new DualSense Wireless Controller designed for the upcoming 007 First Light game. This special controller is set to be released at the same time as the new James Bond game.

The DualSense Wireless Controller is the latest version of Sony’s popular DualShock controllers, and it offers several improvements. Notably, it has adaptive triggers that can simulate different sensations – like the feel of a weapon firing – and a light bar that can display important information, such as a player’s health. Sony has also added features over time through PS5 system updates, including the ability to connect to multiple devices.

The 007 First Light DualSense Controller Is Missing The Films’ Iconic Swirls

As a big fan of both PlayStation and James Bond, I was really excited when I saw the new 007 First Light DualSense controller. But honestly, I’m a little disappointed with the design. Someone on Reddit, user OrganicKeynesianBean, pointed out something I immediately noticed too: it’s missing the iconic swirling pattern from the James Bond gun barrel intro! Sony said they were going for a recognizable look from the franchise, but that detail feels really important and its absence just feels…off. A lot of other people on the subreddit seem to agree – one person even called the design “wack,” which, yeah, I can see where they’re coming from. It’s a cool idea, but that missing detail is a bummer.

Rather than the rifling swirls of a gun barrel, which appear throughout various James Bond films, the 007 First Light DualSense Wireless Controller has straight lines that emerge from the touchpad. The 007 franchise logo is shown in the middle of the touchpad, and the 007 First Light tagline of “Earn The Number” is engraved on the backside. The controller has a golden color throughout the grip and the touchpad, with black buttons and thumb sticks. Functionally, the 007 First Light Limited Edition DualSense Wireless Controller is the same as other PS5 controllers. The 007 First Light controller will go on sale on Wednesday, May 27, the same day that the upcoming James Bond game releases on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.

The new controller will cost $84.99, but there won’t be many available. Sony announced that you can pre-order the 007 First Light controller starting Friday, April 17th, at 10:00 AM local time through PlayStation Direct and other retailers. Keep in mind that the release date and how many controllers are available might vary depending on where you live.

Fit the 9 games into the grid.

Even though the new controller has caused some debate, 007 First Light is shaping up to be one of the biggest game releases of 2026. With the PS5 launch just over a month away, we’ll soon find out if any more surprises are in store.
