Dan Saltman’s Twitch Ban Explained

Dan Saltman's Twitch Ban Explained

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve witnessed more than my fair share of Twitch drama. However, the recent permaban of Dan “Dancanstream” Saltman has certainly taken the cake. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill suspension; we’re talking about an indefinite ban here!

Frequently, Twitch imposes bans on its streamers, sometimes requiring them to take a break from broadcasting. While light punishments like timeouts are common, permanent bans aren’t seen often. Notably, well-known figure in the online streaming community and political streamer, Dan Saltman, has run afoul of Twitch’s rules.

Typically, this action triggered some discussions about the site’s moderation guidelines. Saltman has a reputation for his contentious viewpoints, notably those concerning antisemitism on the platform. Given that Dan recently alleged Twitch as being complicit in antisemitism, Twitch’s strict action against him is not entirely unexpected.

The Details Behind Dan “Dancanstream” Saltman’s Ban

21st November, 2024 saw Dan Saltman announcing that Twitch had indefinitely suspended (or permabanned) him. This is also known as a permanent ban. He seemed unphased by the suspension, indicating that he had expected such repercussions due to his somewhat bold criticisms. In a tweet posted early on the same day, he stated he was in the midst of deleting his account and had initiated a data request before the ban took effect.

It appears he suggested that someone may have been closely monitoring his account, as if it were a hawk keeping watch. He implied the timing of the ban was not just coincidental. His tweet included a screenshot of an email from Twitch, explaining that Extreme Harassment led to his indefinite suspension. Notably, the third point mentioned in the email stated that streaming with the intent to maliciously raid and harass others is considered unacceptable behavior.

Saltman’s Long-Running Criticisms Of Twitch May Have Informed the Ban

saltman has been vocal about his criticism towards Twitch, particularly regarding how they manage sensitive content from creators. One such individual is Hasan “HassanAbi” Piker, who Saltman claims promotes anti-Israel views without facing sufficient consequences on the platform. Furthermore, Saltman’s criticisms have expanded to encourage advertisers to reevaluate their partnership with Twitch, claiming that the platform may harbor antisemitic sentiments.

After investigative journalist Richard Lewis disclosed a report, approximately 11 advertising programs of various agencies were found to have been paused on Twitch, as reported by an anonymous source. Earlier this year, allegations surfaced when Dan Saltman and Destiny suggested that Twitch had deliberately hindered new users from Israel from registering. However, the platform clarified that it was a regrettable mistake, issuing an apology after resolving the issue.

Saltman is also very vocal about his criticisms of Twitch CEO, Dan Clancy, and has called for him to step down numerous times. He has also promoted danclancysucks.com, a parody website aimed at “exposing” Dan Clancy and Twitch’s subtle enabling of anti-semitism. Even after the update to the Twitch Terms of Service, which classifies the term “Zionist” as a slur and a bannable offense, Saltman insisted the platform handled this in an incompetent manner and that no Jew wanted a ban put in place.

The Ban Throws a Wrench into Dan Saltman and Asmongold’s Interview Plans

Despite Dan’s constant criticisms, there are still some more Twitch accusations he has yet to reveal. Fellow streamer Asmongold was set to interview Dan Saltman on a livestream to seemingly “expose” Twitch, but with this ban in place, it is highly unlikely they will be able to go forward with their plan. Saltman also believes that his Twitch suspension was to keep him from speaking with other creators (Asmongold) on stream, as it is probably against the rules to go on a live stream with a suspended streamer.

Nevertheless, it’s worth mentioning that Asmongold expressed earlier this month his readiness to switch to Kick or Rumble if Twitch imposed unfair penalties. Consequently, there’s a chance he might stream live on a different platform instead. It’s crucial to note that specific details about his plans are yet unknown. However, it seems we haven’t seen the last of Dan Saltman in the streaming world.
