Key Takeaways

  • NetEase is selling a WoW Classic bundle in China for $260, featuring a rare mount and old card game loot rewards.
  • The mount in the bundle, a flyinh Swift Spectral Tiger, is worth around $5,000, making it one of the most expensive TCG-exclusives.

As a dedicated World of Warcraft player with over a decade of gaming under my belt, I must say that NetEase has outdone themselves this time! The $260 mount bundle they’ve released for WoW Classic is nothing short of astounding. I remember when the Swift Spectral Tiger was first introduced back in the day, and I would’ve given an arm and a leg to get my hands on it. Now, NetEase is giving us a chance to own this majestic mount at a fraction of its original cost (well, relatively speaking).

The Chinese distributor of “World of Warcraft,” partnered with Blizzard, is offering a bundle of rare mounts for approximately $260. While “World of Warcraft” only recently introduced the $90 Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur, NetEase has increased its value significantly by offering an even rarer mount at a higher price point.

On October 24th, the highly anticipated Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur mount was launched in World of Warcraft, setting a new record for its highest-priced mount at a price point of $90. This individual World of Warcraft mount is priced equally to the Epic Edition of The War Within game.

Nonetheless, NetEase has introduced a mount that is nearly three times as expensive as usual. To mark the MMO’s comeback in China, NetEase launched a WoW Classic package which includes a flying version of the Swift Spectral Tiger, along with other popular World of Warcraft toys such as the Imp in a Ball, Spurious Sarcophagus, and Grim Campfire. It’s important to note that this package is quite pricey. The cost for this bundle is ¥1,888, which translates to around $260. However, Chinese players who already own the ground version of the Swift Spectral Tiger can acquire the flying one for a lower price of ¥588, approximately $81.

These four items form part of a collection that were once prized rewards from the no longer active World of Warcraft Trading Card Game. Notably, the Swift Spectral Tiger, exclusive to the TCG, stands out with an average market value approaching $5,000. Before the rift between Blizzard and NetEase, and the year-long closure of World of Warcraft in China, the initial, ground-only version of the Swift Spectral Tiger could be obtained through a Burning Crusade Classic $1688 bundle, which was roughly equivalent to this new bundle’s cost.

NetEase has found various creative ways to honor World of Warcraft’s anniversary and its re-entry into China. These include hosting a cash competition for Chinese teams vying to be the first to conquer The War Within raids, organizing an Ulduar speedrun tournament for Wrath of the Lich King Classic, and launching a collaborative music app with WoW and a Xal’atath voice pack for Baidu Maps, much like the World of Warcraft cosmetics and Thrall sidekick for Waze. Additionally, they’ve made available the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur in modern WoW China for approximately $120, but this package also includes 2,000 Trader’s Tender that can be used at the Trading Post.

The comeback of World of Warcraft in China has been nothing short of a triumph, attracting over a million concurrent players and generating more than 1,000 job applications for Blizzard China. Furthermore, approximately 100,000 fans have managed to reactivate their accounts. The extravagant offerings such as special event bundles and the creation of the new World of Warcraft Gorehowl statue testify to NetEase’s dedication towards satisfying its players.
