6 Final Anime Antagonists That Rival One Piece’s Nerona Imu

Creating a truly compelling final villain in anime is incredibly challenging, and many writers fall short. However, some anime stories have successfully concluded their series with a perfect villain – one whose motivations fit the story and contribute to a satisfying ending. These well-crafted villains and endings demonstrate that it is possible to get it right.

Watching the latest arc of One Piece, I’ve been really struck by Saint Nerona Imu. He’s quickly become one of the most interesting and well-developed final villains I’ve seen in anime, and it’s clear he’s a cut above most. While there are a few truly captivating final antagonists out there, Imu really stands out as being particularly well-crafted and compelling as the story moves forward in the Final Saga.

All For One

  • Anime: My Hero Academia

In today’s popular anime and manga aimed at young men, very few villains are as capable and well-developed as All For One. From the beginning of My Hero Academia, it was clear he would be the ultimate enemy, which instantly made him a compelling character. Over time, the creator carefully built him up as the most formidable opponent, portraying him as utterly ruthless. All For One’s combination of cunning manipulation and immense power created a truly captivating villain. His detailed backstory, particularly in the Final War arc, and the complex relationship with his brother, further enhanced his role as the series’ final antagonist.

The way All For One met his end in the final battle – taking over Shigaraki, but ultimately being defeated by Izuku Midoriya, who used up all of One For All’s power to do so – solidifies his role as the ultimate villain.

Dio Brando

  • Anime: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

Dio Brando is a central villain in the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series, serving as the main antagonist in both Part 1 and Part 3. In Part 3, Dio becomes the ultimate representation of evil. While his origins and powers aren’t necessarily the most complex, Dio’s symbolic role in both parts makes him a fascinating and memorable character.

Beyond his power, Dio is a compelling character who’s surprisingly easy to like, even though he’s the villain. This definitely contributes to why he’s such a popular final enemy in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Sasuke Uchiha

  • Anime: Naruto

While not a true villain, Sasuke Uchiha served as the final opponent in the Naruto series. Following the defeat of Kaguya Otsutsuki, who many thought was the last enemy, Sasuke challenged Naruto. His plan involved capturing all the Tailed Beasts and eliminating the Five Kage, believing they would lead to the world’s destruction. Ultimately, Sasuke intended to isolate himself completely by imprisoning the Tailed Beasts and severing his last tie to the world – his connection with Naruto Uzumaki.

Sasuke’s final fight with Naruto was a stunning conclusion to his character development. It brought him home to the village and resolved his complicated relationship with Naruto for good. Throughout the entire Naruto series, Sasuke’s journey was compelling, and his role as the primary antagonist only added to his captivating presence.

Yhwach

  • Anime: Bleach

Yhwach, the leader of the Quincies in Bleach, was a strong villain. While many fans prefer Aizen as the better antagonist, Yhwach’s role as the final villain makes him the most suitable choice to represent the series.

I have to admit, Yhwach isn’t the most compelling villain Bleach has ever presented, but the series is packed with great antagonists, and he’s interesting in his own right. What really makes him stand out are his powers, especially The Almighty – they create some truly thrilling moments. Learning about his history and his goal to dismantle the entire world system just adds to his chaotic nature. Plus, his fight was easily one of the most memorable in the whole series. All of that combined made him a really exciting choice for the final villain.

Griffith

  • Anime: Berserk

Griffith, a character from the manga and anime Berserk, is widely considered one of the greatest villains ever created. He begins the story as the charismatic leader of the Band of the Hawk and a close friend to Guts, the main character. Their strong bond significantly enhanced the Berserk narrative. It’s this former friendship that makes him such a compelling antagonist. During a pivotal event called the Eclipse, Griffith fully embraces his role as the villain by becoming a member of the God Hand, and he’s only become more complex and impactful since then.

Griffith has always dreamed of ruling his own kingdom, a desire that dates back to his childhood. His unwavering commitment to this goal, even at great personal cost, makes him a fascinating and complex villain. He’s incredibly ambitious and utterly ruthless, and while the Berserk story is still ongoing, Griffith is widely considered to be the series’ ultimate antagonist. Even now, he’s already recognized as one of the most captivating villains in anime and manga history.

Father

  • Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist

Father, the villain from Fullmetal Alchemist, is widely considered one of the greatest antagonists in fiction. The series’ remarkable ending is a testament to how well author Hiromu Arakawa crafted his character. As the leader of the Homunculi, Father sought godhood, and his power – essentially being a living Philosopher’s Stone – allowed him to bypass the fundamental rules of alchemy, ignoring both Equivalent Exchange and the need for Transmutation Circles.

Father was a remarkably well-developed character, boasting a complex history and incredible strength. Everything about him felt complete and intentional, including his ultimate goal of achieving god-like power. He’s one of the rare anime villains who truly delivered on his potential, and his presence actually made the series finale stronger.
