2K, the publisher of the popular Borderlands series, recently released its first mobile game, simply titled Borderlands Mobile, on the Apple App Store. The game offers the same fast-paced shooting and distinctive comic book art style fans love, letting players complete various missions. However, 2K has announced that Borderlands Mobile will only be available for a limited time.
Many fans are happily surprised by Borderlands Mobile, especially considering Borderlands 4 quickly lost most of its players after release. Despite regular updates and new content, Borderlands 4 couldn’t hold players’ attention. Borderlands Mobile delivers the same exciting, chaotic gameplay – shooting enemies and completing missions – but on mobile devices with shorter play sessions, different game modes, and a battle pass. Being free-to-play also makes it appealing, particularly after the criticism surrounding the price of Borderlands 4.
Borderlands Mobile’s Surprise Drop is For a Limited-Time
So, everyone’s getting hyped for new Borderlands Mobile stuff, but 2K wants to clarify things. Right now, it’s just a limited test – only on iOS and in the US. Basically, they’re using this test to see what players think and figure out how to bring Borderlands to more people. They told Forbes it’s all about getting feedback. The good news is Gearbox is still involved, helping to make sure the story and the way the game looks and feels stays true to what Borderlands fans love.
It’s unclear how long Borderlands Mobile will remain available on the Apple App Store, or if players will eventually lose their game progress. It appears Zynga is using this as a test for the mobile game, and there’s speculation about whether they might release it for Android users, potentially to see how well it runs on different phones. For now, players can continue enjoying the game as it is and await further news from Zynga or 2K regarding this limited release.
Borderlands Continues the Mobile Transition of Big Franchises
Recently, we’ve seen a lot of popular shooting games become available on mobile devices. After the big success of games like Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile, competitive shooters such as Valorant and Overwatch are also being adapted for phones. Overwatch Rush, the mobile version of Overwatch, is already available and offers a streamlined experience for on-the-go play. And soon, Borderlands will be added to the list, as Zynga prepares to launch its mobile version.
Who’s That Character?

Currently, Borderlands Mobile doesn’t offer multiplayer, but it would be great to see Zynga add it. A multiplayer mode could attract players who enjoy competitive shooting games. Alternatively, the game could focus on the story-driven campaigns Borderlands is famous for, and include a variety of single-player game modes to differentiate itself. Even in its current test phase, Borderlands Mobile shows promise, and further improvements based on player feedback could make it even better.
