Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack Sequel Finally Gets New Trailer

I just saw the new English-dubbed trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, and it looks fantastic! The movie is coming to US theaters on May 15th. People have been eagerly awaiting this sequel ever since the first film, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway, came out in 2021 and received a lot of praise – it really brought the original novel trilogy, which started in 1989, to a whole new audience. Now, after five years, we’re almost ready to continue Hathaway Noa’s story, and this next Gundam Hathaway film looks like it will deliver on all the exciting mecha battles and beautiful animation we’ve been hoping for.

Following the release of the film Char’s Counterattack, Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of the Gundam series, wrote three novels called Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash between February 1989 and April 1990. These novels were popular in Japan, but Western fans weren’t very familiar with them until a film trilogy was announced. After being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway was released in theaters in 2021 and was praised globally for its impressive visuals and more sophisticated story. The sequel has already premiered in Japan, and good news for US fans – it will be arriving soon!

New English Trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe Hypes Up US Audiences Ahead of May 15 Theatrical Release

I just watched the new English trailer for The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, and it looks amazing! This is the second film in a trilogy based on the Hathaway’s Flash novels, and the trailer really showcases the incredible action and visuals we can expect when it comes to US theaters on May 15th. It’s directed by Shukou Murase, who’s a really talented animator – I recognized his work from shows like Gundam Wing and Argento Soma, and even the classic RPG Final Fantasy 9. Thankfully, Caleb Yen is back to voice Hathaway Noa in the English dub, and Megan Shipman returns as Gigi Andalucia, which is great news!

I’m so excited about The Sorcery of Nymph Circe! It takes place in U.C. 0105, twelve years after the events of Char’s Rebellion, and things are still pretty tense. This anti-Federation group called MAFTY is fighting back against what they see as a corrupt government, taking out key officials to try and win their freedom. The story centers around Hathaway Noa, Bright Noa’s son, who’s leading MAFTY, but he’s really haunted by his past. He gets involved with this fascinating woman named Gigi Andalucia who has some mysterious abilities. As Hathaway plans a major attack on the Adelaide Conference, the Federation is also gearing up, with Kenneth Sleg leading a secret operation to dismantle MAFTY from within – it’s a total clash of ideologies and strategies!

Although Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway earned over $14 million in Japanese theaters, The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, released January 30th, has already exceeded that amount with over $16 million. While it’s still uncertain how well Nymph Circe will perform in the US, recent success with anime films suggests it could be quite popular. The first film is currently streaming on Netflix in the US.

I was so excited to see the news this week – McDonald’s is teaming up with the original Mobile Suit Gundam! It’s all to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their Chicken Tatsuta Sandwich, which is pretty cool. From what I’ve heard, they’re releasing special Gundamthemed packaging and some new menu items. Plus, if you’re a My McDonald’s Rewards member, you can snag exclusive Gundam* wallpapers until May 12th. As a fan, I can’t wait to check it all out!
