As someone who has been following the Assassin’s Creed series since its inception, I must admit that the news about Shadows has left me rather concerned. The fact that a significant portion of the development team is made up of fresh faces, and that they consider this entry to be the weakest in the franchise, is not exactly music to my ears.
The creation process of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been marked by numerous challenges, including delays and disputes, prior to its launch. It now seems that this upcoming Assassin’s Creed game might be sparking controversy for a specific reason. Apparently, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is going to be the debut project for several developers at Ubisoft. Although introducing fresh talent and challenging veterans is standard practice, it appears that the majority of the team working on Shadows are relative newcomers in the industry.
At the External Development Summit 2024, commonly referred to as XDS24, Assassin’s Creed’s Executive Producer, Marc-Alexis Côté, made a speech.
One observation I’ve made during the pandemic is that many of our team members are relatively new to their roles, with around half of those working on Assassin’s Creed being first-time game developers.

Unfortunately, the bad news continues as Marc-Alexis Côté states that the internal assessment of the game isn’t encouraging either. The creators of Shadows find this installment to be the weakest in the entire Assassin’s Creed series, which suggests potential issues with Ubisoft’s development process overall.
When Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release in 2025, there’s a chance it may not receive enthusiastic praise or positive responses from critics upon its debut. We’ll have to wait and see what happens!
So far, there has been much discussion regarding the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game. Interestingly enough, even the person pulling the strings behind the scenes mentioned a delay in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows!
