Players who are further along in Crimson Desert are becoming unhappy with how little time they have to fly around on dragons. While the game offers many ways to travel its large world, dragon flight is the most fun, but it’s restricted unless you have specific equipment and knowledge.

Despite a rocky start with some graphics and control problems, Crimson Desert has quickly become a leading action-adventure game of 2026. It’s seen over 276,000 players on Steam at its peak, and even a month after release, it still maintains a strong player base of over 141,000 concurrent users – which is rare for a game primarily focused on single-player experiences.

Crimson Desert Players Want Pearl Abyss to Axe the Dragon Timer

Many players who are further along in Crimson Desert are still frustrated with the limitations on their dragon companion, Blackstar. While Blackstar lets players fly across the game world and use powerful fire attacks, the ability to ride it is restricted to just 15 minutes. After that, players must wait a full 50 minutes before they can take to the skies again, a restriction that has sparked complaints on Reddit.

So, mounts are a big deal in Crimson Desert, but the Blackstar dragon is really something else. You can’t even unlock dragon flight until you’re pretty far into the game – like, the middle of chapter 11 out of 12! And honestly, even if you just focus on the main story, that’s going to take you 50 hours or more of playtime. The thing is, by the time you finally get your dragon, there’s not a ton left to explore on the map, which is a bummer. It feels like you don’t get enough time with it to really enjoy it, you know?

Some players unhappy with the dragon cooldown have discovered a workaround. A craftable item called Narima’s Horn in Crimson Desert can instantly reset the 50-minute timer, allowing players to summon Blackstar again right away. However, getting Narima’s Horn is a lengthy process. The Timeworn Ruins Excavation mission needed to unlock it takes 72 hours of in-game time and nearly 100,000 resources. As one Reddit user, Dylangillian, explained, having to grind for resources just to remove the cooldown isn’t enjoyable – it feels like an unnecessary and tedious obstacle to having fun.
