Cloud Imperium Games Lets Go Some Staff Following Citizencon

As a devoted fan who has closely followed Star Citizen’s development for years, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions reading about the recent layoffs at Cloud Imperium Games (CIG). Having witnessed the relentless dedication and tireless effort put forth by the team over countless sleepless nights, it’s heartbreaking to see the consequences that seem to follow such intense periods of work.

After the busy stretch leading up to Citizencon, it seems that Cloud Imperium Games has recently reduced its workforce, according to reports, as employees were previously required to work seven-day workweeks.

The information comes from an ex-CIG employee, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to say that their former employer “is letting a lot of staff go over the last two days with zero compensation right after working them to the bone without even much as a thanks,” and that a “formal announcement” should be “soon.”

According to our internal information, Cloud Imperium Games has recently let go of some employees over the past few days. However, we’re still unsure about the exact scale of these layoffs. As of now, multiple sources have suggested that most of the layoffs have impacted the Quality Assurance (QA) department. Moreover, it appears that the number of employees affected might not be as high as initially reported, with one source estimating approximately a dozen people who have been let go, which equates to around 1% of their total workforce.

Although it’s important to note that we are still in the early stages, Cloud Imperium Games has a past record of letting go of its employees over an extended timeframe. Recently, around this year, CIG discreetly terminated approximately 100 staff members from both its Austin and LA offices. This process took weeks, and those affected were required to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), restricting them from discussing their termination.

Cloud Imperium Games has not publicly or privately communicated any information about potential layoffs or reorganization to its employees.

We will update this article as we hear more.
