As a seasoned gamer who can recall the days of console wars and the frustration of being unable to play with friends across different platforms, I must say that the news about Marvel Rivals featuring crossplay at launch is music to my ears! It’s like we’ve taken a massive step forward in gaming unity.
Video game connections are stronger than they’ve ever been before. Marvel Rivals embodies the epitome of an AAA gaming hit, so incorporating features like crossplay, progress syncing across devices, or multi-platform compatibility would be perfect.
As a child, I disliked the situation where I couldn’t play with or compete against friends who owned different video game consoles. Additionally, it was frustrating that if I purchased the same game for two consoles, my progress wouldn’t transfer between them. However, by 2024, this perspective is largely outdated because most multiplayer games online have cross-platform compatibility features.
Marvel Rivals isn’t merely a popular online multiplayer hero shooting game; it’s rapidly emerging as one of the standout titles in recent memory. With its cross-platform compatibility, the gaming experience is set to be even more immersive, and here’s something intriguing: I have some fresh updates for you!
Is Marvel Rivals Crossplay?
At its debut, Marvel Rivals will offer seamless cross-platform gameplay across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC systems, enabling players from all platforms to enjoy the game together.
The executive producer of Rivals, Danny Koo, confirmed the news during an interview with wccftech. Regarding crossplay, he emphasized that Marvel Rivals will be available on “PC, Xbox, and PlayStation” platforms, and further added that they will also support cross-platform play in the beta version, stating “Yes, and we’ll have cross-play even during the beta testing.“.
Following the interview, it seems almost certain that the beta will include crossplay, which essentially means that Marvel Rivals’ crossplay feature is likely to be available when the hero shooter officially launches on December 6.
Does Marvel Rivals have cross-progression?
Unfortunately, Marvel Rivals likely won’t support cross-progression—at least in its launch phase.
In a recent interview with Guangyun Chen, the game director, for The Gamer, he stated that currently, there’s no cross-progression feature available as they are conducting final technical checks in preparation for the global launch within approximately two months. This process is more resource-intensive than initially anticipated.
Later on, Chen affirmed that cross-progression is highly desired by the community, and currently, the team is deliberating internally about it. For now, let’s assume Marvel Rivals doesn’t include cross-progression at its initial release. However, keep an eye out for updates regarding this topic, as there’s a possibility it could be implemented unexpectedly before launch or added in subsequent updates.
It’s good news on the crossplay front at least. Are you disappointed there’s probably no cross-progression in Marvel Rivals? Will it put you off buying the shooter? While you think about this, also catch up on every map and game mode in Rivals, as well as the latest on Doctor Doom.
