Remaking classic video games is incredibly popular right now. Over the last ten years, we’ve seen beloved titles like Resident Evil 2 and Dragon Quest VII completely rebuilt, and many other franchises are following suit. This trend is often driven by fans who have been requesting these remakes for years.
It’s awesome when a beloved game gets a remake or a new chance to shine, but honestly, so many amazing titles just get left behind. It’s not that developers aren’t trying – there are tons of games fans are desperate to see revisited. Some of them feel so special, a remake would be incredible, and not making one almost feels like a crime! I mean, imagine how amazing it would be to experience that emotional impact all over again.
Certain games have a dedicated fanbase who are still hoping for a modern remake. While many classic games have been successfully remade, a few others are still waiting for a chance to be updated and enjoyed by a new generation.
10. The Simpsons: Hit & Run
D’oh!
While The Simpsons is consistently praised as one of the greatest cartoons ever made, its video games have been hit or miss. For every truly excellent game, like the classic arcade beat ’em up, there’s been a less successful one, such as a wrestling or skateboarding title.
The Simpsons: Hit & Run was exactly what the series needed during the PlayStation 2/Xbox era. Instead of relying on strange new ideas, the game simply let players explore Springfield and cause chaos – and that’s all fans wanted.
Even after all these years, a new version of the game is still highly requested. There have been attempts to make it happen, and the current showrunner for The Simpsons, Matt Selman, hasn’t dismissed the idea. But until then, fans continue to hope and wish for its return.
9. Bully
Welcome to Bullworth Academy
For years, gamers have speculated about a new Bully game, and some evidence suggesting it was in development as early as 2013 surfaced online in 2019. Although Rockstar has primarily focused on Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, many fans have consistently hoped for a remake of the original Bully.
I still think the original Bully is one of the best open-world games ever made. What really gets me is how fun it is to just wander around Bullworth Academy. The world isn’t huge, but it’s packed with detail and that’s actually one of the things I love most about it. It just feels so good to explore!
Bully would be a welcome change in the open-world game scene. Many games today prioritize massive size, but Bully’s smaller, more detailed, and focused world would really make it stand out.
8. EarthBound
The Power of Friendship Remains Undefeated
Many classic Super Nintendo games have been remade, likely because the console had so many popular titles. Surprisingly, though, EarthBound hasn’t been one of them.
Shigesato Itoi’s unique RPG has had a huge impact, inspiring many independent games since its release. It’s a landmark title that practically invented its own style of gameplay. Back when it came out, it was incredibly innovative, swapping traditional fantasy heroes like knights and wizards for relatable teenagers wielding baseball bats. This helped JRPGs evolve and move beyond their established conventions.
For decades, many fans – including me – have hoped for a remake of EarthBound. If we could get the original creator, Itoi, involved, a 3D remake that captures the spirit of the cancelled EarthBound 64 could become one of the most eagerly awaited games ever.
7. Chrono Trigger

It’s almost unbelievable that Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of Final Fantasy), Yuji Horii (creator of Dragon Quest), and Akira Toriyama (famous manga artist) all came together to create Chrono Trigger. But they did! And since then, the game has become one of the most important and beloved JRPGs ever made.
If you follow online gaming, you’ve probably seen fans repeatedly ask Square Enix to remake their popular game, Chrono Trigger, originally released in 1995. While Square Enix has hinted at it several times, a remake hasn’t actually been announced or started yet.
It’s particularly disappointing when you think about how easily this could be done well. Square’s HD-2D style is ideal for a Chrono Trigger remake, as it would keep the original SNES game’s nostalgic feel while updating the graphics with modern technology.
6. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

When Nintendo announced the remake of Link’s Awakening in February 2019, I started hoping they’d remake another Zelda game next. The charming, slightly toy-like art style of Link’s Awakening seemed like it would work really well for a remake of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Even now, after all this time, I believe Nintendo should work with Grezzo. They’re an incredibly skilled team with a strong track record of Zelda remakes, having previously revamped classics like Link’s Awakening, Ocarina of Time, and Majora’s Mask for the 3DS. When it comes to reimagining Zelda games, Grezzo is the obvious choice.
A Link to the Past hasn’t received a major update or remake like many other Zelda games, which is surprising given how important it is to the series. The last significant attention it got was with the 3DS game A Link Between Worlds in 2013, and it’s overdue for a refresh.
5. The Operative: No One Lives Forever
A Swinging ’60s Shooter
Spy games and stories set in the 1960s were incredibly popular in the early 2000s, with titles like Snake Eater and The Operative: No One Lives Forever being prime examples. This was a fantastic period for first-person shooters, and many players remember how much of a splash No One Lives Forever made when it first came out.
This game was both humorous and endearing – a surprisingly rare combination for video games. It cleverly balanced playful satire with the excitement of a real spy thriller. The game’s world, visuals, and overall style are beautiful and would still feel right at home with modern games. Plus, the gameplay was incredibly fun for its time, and the shooting mechanics remain satisfying even now.
Man, it’s a real shame about No One Lives Forever. It’s caught up in a ton of legal trouble and licensing issues. Nightdive Studios – those guys have done amazing remasters of a bunch of classic FPS games – have been trying to remake it for ages, but it’s stuck in limbo until the rights holders give the green light. Basically, it’s abandonware until someone with deep pockets says it’s okay to bring it back.
4. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
Don’t You Mean Surrender or Die?!
I’m a huge Jak and Daxter fan, honestly. Playing these games has become a yearly thing for me, and I really think the first Jak and Daxter set the bar incredibly high for 3D platformers – it was just a fantastic start to the series.
I’ve often thought about how a remake of Jak and Daxter might look. Naughty Dog, the original developer, has gone on to create some amazing games, so it’s unlikely they’d work on it now. But there are still many other talented studios who could potentially take on the project.
With 3D platformers becoming popular again and a desire for more lighthearted games, now is the perfect time for a Jak and Daxter revival. Fans constantly request a remake of this beloved PS2 classic, making it a great opportunity to bring it back now.
3. Dino Crisis
Humans vs Dinos
Shinji Mikami has a history of his games being remade. The first Resident Evil was updated for the GameCube, and there’s even talk of another remake coming soon. Resident Evil 4 also received a remake, but fans have especially longed for a remake of Mikami’s game, Dino Crisis.
Even today, Dino Crisis remains a fantastic game. It expertly builds atmosphere and tension, and its 3D camera was remarkably advanced for its time. The game features incredible camera angles and perfectly blends dinosaurs with the survival horror genre, making it a truly successful title.
Capcom has consistently proven its willingness to revisit and remake its older games. A remake of Dino Crisis, similar in style to the recent Resident Evil remakes, feels long overdue. With Capcom currently developing REX, a more advanced version of the RE Engine, it would be a missed opportunity if they didn’t pursue it.
2. Parasite Eve
The World Needs More Cinematic RPGs
Few PlayStation 1 games have a more dedicated fanbase clamoring for a remake than Parasite Eve. While Metal Gear Solid is seeing renewed calls for a modern update after the positive reception of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, the original Metal Gear Solid was already remade for the GameCube. Parasite Eve, unfortunately, hasn’t received the same treatment.
As a big fan, I still think Parasite Eve does something really special. It perfectly mixes the tension of survival horror with the strategy of JRPG battles, and honestly, it’s an experience unlike any other. There are other games that try to combine those genres, but Parasite Eve just nails the feeling of both worlds coming together.
Fans consistently ask for a remake of Parasite Eve, but it seems increasingly unlikely. While Square Enix wants to continue the story of Aya Brea, they’re facing licensing problems with the novel the game is based on. It’s a shame, because many wish Parasite Eve was a major gaming franchise, but it appears it will remain a beloved classic from a specific era.
1. Bloodborne
The Holy Grail of Holy Grails
Bloodborne fans are so passionate about the game that they’d do anything – even participate in a ritual – to get a remake approved. And honestly, I’d happily join them.
After the remakes of Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil 2, Bloodborne quickly became the most requested game for a remake. Fans constantly ask about a possible remake at gaming events and during live streams. Now that Bluepoint Games, the studio many believed was the perfect fit for the project due to their excellent work on Demon’s Souls, has been shut down, it seems increasingly unlikely that a remake will happen.
Bloodborne’s unique and terrifying world, inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, and its incredibly detailed backstory have left a lasting impression on players. Even after more than ten years, the game remains popular thanks to its dark atmosphere. The challenging combat, fascinating story, and unforgettable setting all blend together perfectly, and fans consistently request a remake more than any other game.
