What I love is that it’s not just about making yummy food – it actually connects to everything else you do, like gardening and fishing. That makes it a fantastic hobby to start with. Basically, you can turn the stuff you grow, buy, or find into meals that sell for a good price and help you get further in the game. This guide is going to show you everything, from how to unlock cooking to actually making delicious dishes in Heartopia!
How to Unlock Cooking in Heartopia
You can start cooking when you reach Developer Level 5 (also known as DG Level 5). At this level, you’ll get a Hobby Expansion Ticket, letting you choose a hobby – your options will be Insect Catching, Bird Watching, or Cooking.
You can start with either skill, but unlocking Cooking first is usually best. It connects well with Gardening and Fishing in Heartopia, and leveling all three at the same time makes it easier to advance and earn more money.
To learn Cooking, find Massimo, the chef, outside his café in the town center. He’ll teach you everything you need to know. Just give him a Hobby Expansion Ticket to get started.
Okay, so if I picked something other than Cooking when I hit Level 5, don’t worry! I can still unlock Cooking later on – either at Dragon Gate Level 8 or Level 11. That’s great to know!
How to Cook in Heartopia
Once you start cooking, you’ll need ingredients! While Massimo sells a few basics, you’ll be able to make much more if you collect them yourself. This means growing crops in your garden, catching fish, and finding items around town. Make sure to gather plenty of ingredients before you start cooking!
To begin cooking, use a stove and choose a recipe from the dishes you’ve already learned. You can’t experiment with ingredients to discover new recipes—you can only make the ones you already know how to make.
Okay, so once I’ve picked out all my ingredients and started the recipe, a timer pops up over the stove to show how it’s cooking. Every now and then, a little spatula icon with a green circle will appear – I have to tap that before the circle disappears! It lets me adjust the heat and keep things from burning. If I mess up and don’t tap it in time, my dish gets totally ruined and I end up with some weird, inedible creation.
In Heartopia, even simple dishes like salads can get burnt, so it’s important to keep an eye on the cooking timers. This will help you serve perfect meals and earn those valuable high star ratings!
Cooking involves repeating certain actions, like stirring or flipping, and it’s best to stay focused on the stove until your food is done. As you get more comfortable, these quick actions will become second nature, letting you consistently create delicious meals.
Cooking Recipes in Heartopia
You can change up many recipes by using different ingredients. Each time you do, you’ll permanently add a new dish to your collection. For instance, making Tomato Sauce requires four tomatoes, but if you use any other fruit instead, you’ll create a Jam with that fruit’s flavor.
Each slight change to a recipe counts as a new one, which means you’ll earn more experience points and have more choices if you’re short on ingredients. Trying out these variations isn’t necessary, but it’s a great way to level up your Cooking skill quickly.
