With so much Star Wars material available, fans who love story-focused games are eagerly anticipating Star Wars Eclipse. Announced way back in December 2021, the game is being developed by Quantic Dream, the studio behind Heavy Rain and Detroit Become Human, known for their visually impressive games where your choices really matter.
Since its impressive first trailer, Star Wars Eclipse hasn’t been heard from much. There haven’t been any updates on its development or a release date announced by either Quantic Dream or LucasFilm since 2021. Recently, Quantic Dream released Spellcasters Chronicles, a free-to-play game that’s quite different from Star Wars, and the studio was also bought by NetEase in August 2022. These events have led to a lot of speculation that development on Star Wars Eclipse is facing difficulties.
Star Wars Eclipse Is MIA, and Fans Are Getting Wary
Fans are starting to get anxious about Star Wars Eclipse as we approach the fifth anniversary of its announcement in 2026. Concerns and doubts about the game have actually been around since 2024, so this isn’t a new development.

A popular post on the Star Wars subreddit, originally shared after the announcement of the Eclipse game three years ago, received surprisingly pessimistic responses. Although the original post itself was neutral, the top comment expressed doubt that the game would ever actually be released. Many others agreed, with some even predicting its cancellation. One user wrote that they expected the next update about Eclipse would be an announcement that the project had been scrapped.
Many gamers are already comparing Star Wars Eclipse to Star Wars: 1313, a game LucasArts unfortunately canceled back in 2013.
Some people have expressed only mild enthusiasm for the game. One comment noted that Quantic Dream first showed off a technology demonstration called Kara six years before Detroit: Become Human came out, leading some to believe the game was in development for a long time. However, that’s not quite accurate. While Kara was revealed six years prior, it was a separate demo. Quantic Dream didn’t actually announce Detroit: Become Human until 2015, just three years before its release.
Many commenters, and fans of both Star Wars and Quantic Dream, believe the delay of Star Wars Eclipse is connected to NetEase acquiring Quantic Dream in 2022. One user suggested the delay likely happened after the acquisition, and unless NetEase intends to use Quantic Dream solely for mobile games, Star Wars Eclipse might not release until 2027 or 2028.
While this idea is intriguing, it’s probably too complex to definitively prove. However, it does seem clear that Quantic Dream is going through a transition, as its founder and CEO, David Cage, has suggested.
What Does Quantic Dream Have to Say About Star Wars Eclipse’s Development?
In an October 2025 blog post, Cage announced that Quantic Dream is starting a new phase focused on expansion and taking on ambitious projects. The post detailed several changes at the studio, including a move to a main office in Paris and the opening of a new location in Montreal. However, Cage emphasized that the biggest change came from developing Spellcasters Chronicles. He described the development process as challenging, noting that both the studio’s reputation and the competitive nature of multiplayer games meant they had a lot to prove, as they lacked previous experience in the genre.
He also mentioned that Quantic Dream is now working on multiple projects, not just Spellcasters. This suggests they haven’t abandoned Star Wars Eclipse, and that working on two games at once might be the reason development is taking longer. Cage later confirmed that Star Wars: Eclipse is still in development and that they plan to share updates when they’re ready.
Given David Cage’s past, some people are skeptical of his statements. However, it seems unlikely he would publicly say Eclipse is still in development if he wasn’t reasonably confident it would happen. That said, his confirmation was brief and didn’t really address people’s worries. More details about how far along the game is in its creation would have been reassuring. A game still in the early planning stages is much more likely to be canceled than one that’s already well underway.
Now that Quantic Dream has launched Spellcasters Chronicles, the studio will likely continue to support it for a while. However, they may also be able to start focusing on Star Wars Eclipse again, and we might hear more about that project soon.
