As a huge Starfield fan, I’m really bummed to hear about all the crashing issues people are experiencing on PlayStation 5 and the new PS5 Pro. It’s definitely not the smooth launch Bethesda was hoping for, and everyone’s already sharing their problems online. It’s frustrating to see so many players running into trouble right after the game came to PlayStation!
After being available on Xbox for over two years, Starfield was finally released on PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026. While opinions on the RPG have been mixed, the game still generated a lot of excitement thanks to being made by Bethesda. Bethesda added special features for the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions that utilize the DualSense controller. However, players are currently experiencing significant problems that are making the game difficult to play.
Starfield Crashing Issues Rampant on PS5 and PS5 Pro
A Reddit user, ShogunRaw, started a discussion about major problems with the PlayStation 5 version of Starfield. They’re experiencing crashes roughly every two minutes, and nothing seems to fix it – they’ve tried deleting saved data, changing performance settings, and even reinstalling the game. They say it makes the game unplayable. Many others in the thread report the same issue on both the standard PS5 and the PS5 Pro. The problems aren’t limited to full crashes either; frequent, brief freezes are also forcing players to completely close the game, ruining their experience.
A major issue with Starfield on PS5 is that players and developers haven’t been able to pinpoint the cause of the frequent crashes. Attempts to fix the problem haven’t worked, and the crashes don’t seem to be triggered by any specific in-game action. Some players have requested refunds due to their disappointment with the game, while others are cautiously optimistic about future updates, though they doubt Bethesda will release them quickly.
So, Bethesda hasn’t officially said anything about all the crashing people are reporting on the PS5 version of Starfield. But honestly, with so many refund requests flooding in, you’d have to think they know there’s a problem. They haven’t given us a timeframe for a fix yet, which is frustrating. Still, they’ve been pretty consistent with updates for the PC and Xbox versions over the last couple of years, so I’m hoping that means they’ll get around to fixing the PS5 issues eventually. While Bethesda is also working on Elder Scrolls 6, they’re not finished with Starfield yet. Lead creative producer Tim Lamb has stated the studio wants to make Starfield a game that people will still enjoy for years to come. It’s a bold ambition, considering the game has received mixed reactions from players, and it remains to be seen if they can achieve it.
