Sony is trying out a fresh look for the PlayStation Store on PS5. The new design features much bigger images, along with other updates. If these changes are released to everyone β which Sony hasn’t confirmed yet β it would be the biggest update to the PS Store in over five years.
In November 2026, the PlayStation Store will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Over the years, Sony has significantly updated the storeβs design three times, usually around the launch of new PlayStation consoles. The biggest changes happened in 2008, 2012, and 2020.
PlayStation Store Redesign Spotted on the PS5
Sony is likely working on a significant update to the PlayStation Store. Some users participating in the PlayStation Beta program are currently testing a new interface. Screenshots emerged on April 11th showing a redesigned ‘Browse’ section. The new version differs from the current store, which displays a large number of games in a grid format. Instead, the updated interface highlights fewer games with larger, more visually prominent cards. This suggests Sony is prioritizing a more carefully selected experience, similar to how Netflix showcases its content, over simply displaying as many games as possible.
New PS Store Design Includes Prominently Featured Game Tags
The new beta menu showcases fewer games in its main display compared to the current PlayStation Store, but it offers more details about each one. Games are tagged with descriptive labels that highlight their genre and key features β for example, ‘People of Note’ includes tags like “RPG,” “turn-based combat,” “stylized,” and “story-rich.” ‘Starfield’ is described with tags like “open-world,” “RPG,” “cinematic,” and “space exploration.” Each game also has a short, catchy description β a quick summary of what the game is about β displayed alongside its image.
The newest test version of the PlayStation Store now includes sections where you can browse games by mood or genre, found right under the featured game carousel. This is similar to a feature Netflix began testing with some users in spring 2025, letting them browse based on how they’re feeling. The main layout of the PS Store β with sections for new releases, curated collections, sales, and PlayStation Plus updates β hasn’t changed. This updated interface is currently only available on the PS5. Sony hasn’t officially announced the changes, which suggests they may not be ready to release it to everyone just yet, and there’s no word on when a wider release might happen.

Latest PS Store Beta Layout Includes Autoplaying Videos
So, I’ve been hearing about some changes to the PlayStation Store layout, and it sounds pretty interesting. Apparently, when you highlight a game tile in the carousel, it automatically starts playing a trailer. I haven’t seen anyone mention if the trailers are muted by default, but that’s usually how these things work these days. As of April 12th, it looks like this new layout is rolling out to some beta testers in Europe and North America β I haven’t heard anything about it anywhere else yet. On top of that, Sony is also testing a completely new home screen layout for the PS5, and it seems like the same group of testers are getting to try that out too!
