New Metro Game Confirms Reveal Date

The latest installment in the Metro saga, Metro 2039, has been officially announced. Deep Silver will publish the game, and 4A Games is developing it, continuing their work on the series. We’ll get a complete look at the game during an Xbox event on Thursday, April 16th.

I first jumped into the Metro series back in 2010 with Metro 2033, and it totally hooked me. It’s based on these awesome post-apocalyptic novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky. The studio behind it, 4A Games, was actually started by some of the people who worked on S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which already had a great reputation. So far, there are three main Metro games where you play as Artyom, trying to survive after a nuclear war wipes out Moscow. And just recently, in November 2024, they released Metro Awakening, which is a VR spin-off – it’s a really immersive experience!

Metro 2039 Will Be Fully Revealed on April 16

  • Xbox First Look: Metro 2039 premieres on April 16 at 10am PT / 1pm ET

On April 13th, 4A Games and Deep Silver officially revealed Metro 2039, the newest installment in the popular Metro series. This announcement followed a leak earlier in the week by AlexandreNGamR, who predicted a new game would be revealed soon. While leaks are often unreliable, this one turned out to be accurate.

Following announcements from 4A Games, Deep Silver, and the official Xbox account, a new video about Metro 2039 is coming to YouTube. Xbox has confirmed it will release an “Xbox First Look” video on April 16th at 10am Pacific Time / 1pm Eastern Time. While details are limited, the video description offers a small preview of what players can anticipate in the next Metro game.

Dive into the terrifying world beneath Moscow after a disaster, and fight for the future of humanity in the Metro tunnels.

This description is particularly interesting for fans of Metro Exodus, the latest game in the series. Without giving away any key plot points, Metro Exodus has players continue as Artyom, but this time he’s leaving the Moscow subway tunnels to explore a much larger world. Like previous Metro games, Metro Exodus has multiple endings determined by player choices, and one of those endings hints at Artyom eventually returning to Moscow. However, it’s still unknown whether Artyom will be the main character in Metro 2039, or if the new game will begin a completely new story arc for the series.
