Hey everyone, so Animal Crossing: New Horizons just got a new update – version 3.0.2! And to celebrate the series turning 25, they’re giving us a free gift in the game. It’s a nice little bonus to mark the anniversary!
The Animal Crossing series first launched in Japan in 2001, and players in other countries discovered it a year later. While it quickly built a dedicated fanbase in Japan, it took a little longer to become widely popular in the west. That changed with the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the game became a global phenomenon, enjoyed by both seasoned gamers and newcomers alike. Following the release of the Switch 2, New Horizons received updates, and it has just gotten another one.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0.2 Update Released
A new update, version 3.0.2, is now available for Animal Crossing: New Horizons on both the original Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2. This update fixes several bugs that were affecting gameplay, including issues with crafting and the Slumber Islands. Players should no longer experience problems like getting stuck in hotels due to furniture or guest behavior, or villagers appearing in strange places inside homes. The update also addresses smaller visual glitches, such as dung beetles remaining on snowballs after they’ve melted and items briefly appearing from rocks before being hit.
The game has been updated to fix a bug that let players craft items without all the required materials. Now, players will need to follow the original recipes. The update also includes other small adjustments and fixes designed to make the game more enjoyable.
A new item is now available for players who download the latest update: a large, decorative leaf inspired by the Animal Crossing logo! If the update doesn’t install automatically, you can check for it in the game’s menu on your Switch or Switch 2. Once downloaded, simply check your in-game mailbox to receive the leaf, which you can display outside your home.

Now that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is six years old, players are wondering what Nintendo has planned for the game’s future. Instead of creating a brand new Animal Crossing title, Nintendo unexpectedly released a large 3.0 update with new content and improvements after the Nintendo Switch 2 launched. Dedicated fans are still very engaged with their New Horizons islands and are hoping for more downloadable content or substantial updates, rather than a completely new game. The fact that no new Animal Crossing game was mentioned in the recent Nintendo leak suggests this might happen.
