In the game Graveyard Keeper, Peat is a useful resource for improving your cemetery. You can use it to create flowerbeds, which boosts the cemetery’s reputation and keeps the Bishop happy – unlocking more content. Peat also works well as fertilizer to help your farm thrive. You can initially buy Peat from a farmer north of the village for a reasonable price, but later in the game, you’ll be able to make your own by composting farming waste.

Where To Buy Peat In Graveyard Keeper

In Graveyard Keeper, you can purchase Peat from Shepherd, a farmer located northeast of the dairy farm. He’s easily recognizable by his eyepatch and stands just to the left of the carpenter, who sells Repair Kits.

He sells Peat for only 2 Bronze coins, and usually has around 30 pieces available. It’s a fair price, and thankfully, it doesn’t go up each time you buy some.

Shepherd buys Crop Waste, which is a material used to create Peat. Players can also sell their own Crop Waste to him, but he only pays 1 Bronze coin per piece.

How To Make Peat In Graveyard Keeper

Making your own Peat in Graveyard Keeper is definitely cheaper than buying it. To start, you’ll need to begin farming – you can get the land for this from the tavern landlord.

Making Crop Waste From Farming

You can buy seeds from the farmer south of the village. Any seeds work for Peat, so Beet seeds are the most affordable option. It’s also a good idea to grow carrots, as you’ll need them later to pay the donkey for delivering corpses.

I’ve been experimenting with farming in the game, and it’s pretty cool! You start by building empty garden beds out in the fields, then you dig them up and plant your seeds. The best part? You don’t even need to water anything! Just wait a few days, and you can harvest your crops. When you do, you get things like beets and more seeds to plant, but you also get something called Crop Waste – not sure what that’s for yet, but it’s definitely part of the process!

You’ll need 8 Crop Waste to continue, so it’s a good idea to plant extra seeds at the start or farm for a few rounds to collect enough.

Build A Compost Heap & Put Crop Waste In

Okay, so in the farming upgrades, you’ll need to unlock ‘Decay’ – it costs 10 green points. Once you do that, you can finally build a Compost Heap in your garden, which takes 10 Wooden Sticks. Just a heads-up, building it requires digging, so make sure you’ve got some good food recipes ready to keep your energy up!

Once your Compost Heap is built, you can use it to turn Crop Waste into compost. You can add up to 8 Crop Waste at a time. It takes a while for the composting process to finish—much like cooking—so feel free to work on other tasks, like digging graves, while you wait.

After around a day, you can go and collect 6 Peat and 2 Maggots.
