Let me tell you, managing your stuff in Windrose is a key part of the experience. You start with pretty limited inventory space, but thankfully, you can craft bags to expand it. I found the first couple of upgrades pretty accessible, and they were a huge help when I was scavenging ruins and enemy camps for loot. Getting those later, bigger bag upgrades? That’s a longer haul. If you’re like me and tend to hoard everything, don’t worry – I’ve also picked up a few tricks to help you keep your inventory from getting totally clogged up.
How to Expand Inventory Space in Windrose
To get more space for items, you can craft a Torn Sailcoth Bag. First, place a Workbench, then use 2 Coarse Fabric and 1 Rope – both of which are made at the Workbench from Plant Fiber. This simple bag adds four extra inventory slots, which is a helpful boost when you’re just starting out.
After that, you can upgrade your storage again with the Sailor Backpack. This gives you four more inventory slots – essentially adding a whole new row of space. However, it’s a bit more complicated to make, and you’ll need these materials:
- 1 Torn Sailcloth Bag
- 5 Rough Hide
- 2 Copper Ingot
- Level 2 Workbench
To get Rough Hide, hunt boars. You should already have a Torn Sailcloth Bag. For Copper Ingots, first build both a Charcoal Kiln and a Smelting Furnace. Use the kiln to make Charcoal, then use that Charcoal in the Smelting Furnace to turn Copper Ore into Copper Ingots.
In Windrose, to improve your Workbench, you’ll first need to craft a Sawhorse. This requires 10 Copper Ingots and 20 Wood. Once built, place the Sawhorse within the range of your base’s Bonfire, and it will automatically upgrade all Workbenches within that Bonfire’s area.
Storage Tips and Tricks
While a large bag is useful, remember you can also store items on your ship. You can call your ship to you whenever you’re near the coast. If your bags get full while you’re out exploring, take a break and transfer some items to your ship.
You won’t be able to fit all your items on your ship, so it’s smart to always carry a Fast Travel Bell. You can use these to create Fast Travel Points. If you need more storage space, or your ship takes damage in a fight, place a Fast Travel Point on any island and teleport back to your base to sort things out. Then, teleport back to the point, destroy it to get a full refund of the building materials, and you’re ready to set sail again.
Don’t forget to build a pier in your base! Include a Fast Travel Point on it, and a small storage depot nearby. This setup ensures you always appear close to your ship when you teleport home, and reduces running around compared to other survival games. Just make sure the storage depot stays within range of your Bonfire so your workstations can still access all your crafting materials.
