As a long-time fan of both Dead by Daylight and Junji Ito‘s terrifyingly captivating horror manga, I can barely contain my excitement over this upcoming collaboration! Growing up, I devoured every gruesome, spine-tingling tale that Mr. Ito had to offer, and now seeing these iconic characters brought to life in the world of Dead by Daylight is a dream come true.
In a thrilling turn of events, the asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight has teamed up with renowned horror manga artist Junji Ito. Unlike previous collaborations, this partnership won’t introduce new Killers or Survivors to Dead by Daylight. Instead, it promises an array of new skins, mainly for Killers, mirroring the chilling aesthetics that Junji Ito is known for. The collaboration, set to launch on January 7, 2025, will offer two Legendary skins with unique audio accompaniments and a total of six Very Rare skins. However, the methods by which these skins can be obtained within the game remain undisclosed at this time.
Two Legendary Skins For The Artist And The Spirit
The partnership encompasses two iconic skins inspired by some of Junji Ito’s well-known characters: Miss Fuchi, a character skin for the assassin known as The Artist, and Tomie, a character skin for The Spirit. Each will come with distinctive dialogue lines, likely derived from the characters’ portrayals in animated adaptations of Junji Ito’s graphic novels.
Miss Fuchi: A Cannibalistic, Terrifying “Model”
In various tales by Junji Ito, a character named Fuchi emerges prominently, with significant roles in “Rumors” and “Fashion Model.” She also makes an appearance in the background of “Voices in the Dark.” Although Fuchi sports an eerie, undead-like visage, she has achieved professional success as a model and occasionally as an actress. However, Fuchi harbors a hidden secret: her teeth are razor-sharp, and she derives great pleasure from hunting and devouring humans. Known for her distinctive cackling laughter, Fuchi’s iconic sound will be replicated in the game Dead by Daylight.
Tomie: Junji Ito’s Most Famous Creation
Among the consistently appearing figures in Junji Ito’s stories is Tomie Kawakami, the lead character of the manga compilation titled “Tomie“. On the surface, she appears as a captivating and alluring young woman; however, beneath this facade lies a character that is both cruel and manipulative. Her greatest passion is herself, and she takes pleasure in controlling her smitten, love-struck admirers, transforming individuals she dislikes into replicas of herself. Certain portrayals of Tomie reveal a second, eerier face lurking beneath her seemingly beautiful one; this dual nature will be mirrored in the “Spirit skin” from “Dead by Daylight“.
Six Very Rare Skins Honor Other Classic Junji Ito Characters
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about upcoming cosmetics! Alongside the two Legendary skins we’ve been waiting for, there will be six Very Rare ones in the pipeline. Three of these are designed specifically for Killers and the other three for Survivors. Just like the Legendary skins, the method to obtain these new cosmetics is still under wraps, so stay tuned! The six Very Rare skins are as follows: [List the six Very Rare skins here]
- Souichi Tsujii, another recurring Ito character who appears in several short stories. Souichi loves casting curses and plotting tricky schemes. His skin is for The Trickster, and will feature a new animation where Souichi spits nails at his victims.
- The Hikizuri Siblings, a group of six siblings who appear in multiple short stories. Following the death of their parents, they live an odd life closely connected to the supernatural. Their skin is for The Twins.
- The Beings Trapped in the Tunnel, a group of unlucky humans who are sucked into a tunnel and become trapped there for eternity in the short story The Story of the Mysterious Tunnel. This skin is for The Dredge.
- Tsukiko Izumisawa, a girl who is one of the first to discover Tomie’s supernatural nature in the Tomie anthologies. Her skin is for Yui Kimura.
- Terumi Fujino, a girl who kills herself and kicks off a bizarre string of supernatural suicides in the short story The Hanging Balloons. Her skin is for Yun-Jin Lee.
- A ballet dancer puppet from the short story House of the Marionettes, in which a family is revealed to have a strange relationship with the puppets used in their traveling show. This skin is for Kate Denson, and notably seems to be a version of Kate herself dressed as one of these puppets rather than the actual puppets from the story.
