The Best Online Co-Op Games On Game Pass Right Now

As a huge gamer, I think Xbox Game Pass is the subscription service to have. What really sets it apart is that Microsoft puts its big, exclusive games on Game Pass right when they come out, and a ton of other awesome games are available on day one too. But honestly, it’s the sheer variety that gets me – there’s something for everyone, no matter what you’re in the mood for. And if you’re like me and love playing with friends, a lot of the best Xbox co-op games are included too!

Playing games together locally has been a favorite for years, and hopefully will remain so. However, online co-op is now the most popular way to play with others. Microsoft recognizes this, and many players are wondering: what are the best co-op games available through Game Pass?

We’ll primarily focus on games you can play cooperatively online, as another article already covers local co-op options. However, we’ll make exceptions for a few really popular games, particularly if they let a large number of players join the online fun.

PowerWash Simulator 2

You And A Few Friends Can Relax And Clean Freely

PowerWash Simulator 2 lets you play with friends, both locally and online! The main campaign supports two players working together to clean, but a free play mode lets up to six players join online for even more chaotic fun. While the story mode is great, free play really takes the game to the next level, letting you tackle jobs with a bigger team for a hilariously messy experience. Try cleaning the story levels solo, then gather some friends and see how quickly you can finish them together!

Okay, so I’ve been playing PowerWash Simulator 2, and honestly, it’s become one of my go-to games on Game Pass. You can play it by yourself, with someone on the couch, or even online with friends. I know, cleaning a game sounds…boring, right? But trust me, this game actually makes it fun, and it’s surprisingly satisfying to just blast dirt away. It’s easily one of the best simulation games out there.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Everything Else Aside, COD Zombies Is Still A Blast

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 might not be everyone’s favorite shooter, especially compared to other recent Call of Duty games, the Zombies mode remains a strong point. Though Black Ops 3‘s Zombies is arguably better, Black Ops 7‘s version is still really enjoyable and perfect for playing with friends. It’s great for regular get-togethers, and also works well as a simple, local co-op experience. It’s a shame that local co-op is limited to two players, but you can still play with up to four people online.

While the campaign offers a solid 5-hour experience with the exciting action Call of Duty is known for, and even includes 4-player online co-op – a rare feature – the real highlight is Zombies. It’s definitely worth playing, and could easily fill a weekend. But seriously, play Zombies!

Abiotic Factor

An Awesome Co-Op Survival Game

I’ve been following Abiotic Factor for a while now, and I was so glad to see it officially launch! It was a smart move to release it alongside Game Pass and PS Plus Extra – it meant tons of people could jump in right away. The game already had some good buzz, and this just helped it reach a much wider audience, which it definitely deserved.

Okay, so I’ve been playing Abiotic Factor, and it’s pretty cool. You can play it by yourself or jump into public servers, but honestly, it’s way more fun with friends. Campaigns are seriously long – we’re talking dozens of hours! It’s got a bit of a Half-Life vibe, set in this huge underground facility called GATE that’s been invaded by creatures from another dimension. Basically, you and your buddies are scientists stuck down there, trying to escape, but also figuring out how to survive and even use this crazy situation to your advantage.

Abiotic Factor is a survival game where you build and manage a base with your team. You’ll focus on staying alive, improving your home, and venturing out to complete missions and find useful items. While there is combat, it’s not the main focus – the game really shines when players work together and coordinate their efforts.

Grounded 2 (Early Access)

One Of The Definitive Game Pass Online Co-Op Games

For years, Grounded has been a top pick for online co-op players on Game Pass, and it’s still a great option. Its sequel, developed by Obsidian, entered early access in 2025, but it’s still under development and likely won’t be fully finished this year.

Even now, Grounded 2 is a really enjoyable survival game you can play with friends. It builds on what made the first Grounded great, offering a bigger world to explore (this time in a park) and more RPG-style gameplay. Like the original, you’ll build bases, battle insects, interact with detailed environments, and have a lot of fun discovering secrets. If you haven’t played Grounded yet, that’s still a fantastic choice. But if you’ve finished the first game and want something similar, and possibly even improved, Grounded 2 is worth checking out.

33 Immortals (Early Access)

Team-Up To Battle Through Hell

Game Preview’s 33 Immortals offers exactly what you’d expect: cooperative gameplay with 33 players. However, reaching that full player count is the goal, as the game drops you into a map with up to 32 other warriors for a 25-minute session. The aim is to defeat enemies, explore mini-dungeons, gather currency, and stay alive, potentially even tackling challenging Ascension Battles. While the game world supports 33 players across different areas (Inferno, Purgatorio, or Paradiso), each mini-dungeon only allows up to six. As time goes on, players will inevitably fall, leaving a small number to team up and face a final, climactic challenge.

33 Immortals is a quick and exciting roguelite game with stylish combat, cool animations, and vibrant graphics. You can choose from four different weapons, each offering a unique playstyle, and unlock upgrades as you play. These weapons are really powerful when used together with friends, making teamwork key to success. Overall, 33 Immortals is a really fun game that proves a great idea can be brilliantly executed. We’re excited to see what the future holds for this online co-op game available on Game Pass.

Sea Of Thieves

A Pirate Co-Op Adventure For You Are Your Crew

I have to say, I’m really impressed with how Sea of Thieves turned out. It didn’t have the biggest start, but it’s become a truly amazing game to play with friends. You can team up with up to three other players to become a pirate crew and sail the seas looking for treasure and adventure – and watch out for the Kraken! While you can play by yourself, it’s definitely more fun – and easier – when you work together, because the game is really built around both cooperative play and battling other players.

Despite launching over five years ago, Sea of Thieves continues to receive regular updates with new events and treasure. There’s almost always something for players to find and enjoy.

Hunt: Showdown 1896

Hunt Together, Loot Together On Game Pass

Originally called Hunt: Showdown, this game – now known as 1986 – is a thrilling extraction shooter where you compete in hunts for valuable rewards. The primary objective is to defeat a main boss in a Bounty Hunt, but players can also choose to quickly grab smaller rewards and escape. This is a smart strategy because the game features permadeath – losing a well-developed hunter can be a significant setback.

While you can play Hunt: Showdown 1896 by yourself, it’s really designed for teams of two or three. Because the game combines PvP and PvE, other players are often the biggest threat, and going it alone usually leads to quick defeat.

Far Cry 5 And New Dawn

Rampage Through Hope Country With A Friend

The Far Cry series didn’t always have co-op, but it was added starting with the third game. Far Cry 4 let two players play through most of the story together, and Far Cry 5 really refined that experience. While some players have different opinions about it, Far Cry 5 is often considered the best co-op game in the series, and one of the best open-world games overall. You can team up for almost the entire campaign, except for a few starting missions. Keep in mind that only the host’s progress is saved, but if that doesn’t bother you, it’s definitely worth playing.

While Far Cry New Dawn is a direct sequel – a rarity for the series – it’s not considered one of the best Far Cry games. It’s particularly hard to recommend if you haven’t played Far Cry 5. Seeing Hope County after a nuclear war is interesting, but the game world is very similar to the original and feels quite repetitive. The story isn’t as strong as the previous game, though the villainous twins are somewhat enjoyable.

Despite its imperfections, Far Cry New Dawn is a really fun game to play with a friend, and its quick missions are perfect for cooperative play. It’s best enjoyed by those who have already played Far Cry 5, but it’s definitely worth checking out as a continuation of that game’s story.

Dead Island 2

Just Uncomplicated Zombie Destroying Fun

Despite receiving mostly good reviews when it first came out, Dead Island 2 really took off after being added to Xbox Game Pass. On paper, the sequel doesn’t seem like a huge improvement, and players who didn’t love the original might hesitate to buy it just for more zombie-killing in a solid, but not groundbreaking, game. However, Dead Island 2 is surprisingly fun to play – something that doesn’t always come across in videos or pictures. With a detailed and satisfying gore system, the game focuses on perfecting the core gameplay, and it succeeds.

While the game truly shines as a solo experience – and is a great place for newcomers to begin – it also offers a well-designed co-op mode. You can team up relatively early in the game, and Dambuster made sure both players have a fair experience. To play together, you both need to be on the same mission. If one player is further ahead in the story, they’ll join as a guest to help their friend with an earlier part of the campaign.

Warhammer 40000: Darktide

Challenging Co-Op Campaign For Warhammer 40K Fans

With so many Warhammer 40K games available – spanning all sorts of genres and varying in quality – it can be hard to know where to start. Darktide is one of the better recent releases, and its fast-paced action will appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers who just want to fight through waves of enemies. The game features four distinct classes to play, each with a unique feel, and most players will probably find a couple they enjoy the most.

Because Darktide was designed with four character classes specifically for teamwork, it didn’t initially have a way to play alone. The game can be very challenging, meaning players need to cooperate to defeat its tough enemies and bosses.

Palworld

An Ambitious Blend Of Genres That Is Better With Friends

The idea of an open-world survival game that combines creature-collecting like Pokemon with third-person shooting seems like it could either be brilliant or a complete failure. It’s hard to imagine all those elements working well together, but Palworld surprisingly does. It’s worth noting that the developers, Pocket Pair, are still actively improving the game, so things will likely change and expand. While some technical hiccups are expected, Palworld isn’t riddled with game-breaking problems.

Palworld takes place in the Galapagos Islands and puts players in a world where they need to both survive and build a life for themselves. This means gathering supplies and creating a base, but also exploring the expansive landscape to find resources and capture Pals. Unlike typical monster-taming games, Pals aren’t just for fighting – they have unique skills that can help you build and travel. While it’s not the most complicated survival game out there, Palworld has become popular because it successfully blends elements from different genres in a unique way.

Palworld is great for players who like to explore on their own, but it’s also built for online play. You can join servers with up to 32 people or team up with three friends. While the online features aren’t perfect and can be a little tricky, they add a lot to the game and help keep things interesting, especially after you’ve spent a good amount of time playing.

Payday 2

Classic Heist Game That Is Still Better Than Payday 3

Even though it came out in 2015, Payday 2 remains incredibly popular for online co-op gaming, and it doesn’t look like that will change soon. Most gamers already know the game, but if you and your friends are looking for a fun first-person shooter to play together, it’s still one of the best choices available.

The core of the game is all about carefully planning and carrying out robberies. Players team up, take on jobs, and then have multiple ways to approach escaping with the stolen money. Payday 2 keeps things interesting by making each heist feel different and unpredictable, and a detailed skill tree system adds to this variety.

World War Z: Aftermath

Blast Through Hordes Of Zombies With Friends

I remember when World War Z first came out in 2019 – it was a pretty solid zombie shooter, especially if you loved playing with friends. It definitely took some cues from Left 4 Dead, but also tried some new things. It was fun, though a little rough around the edges, and didn’t really keep my attention for that long. Honestly, I wouldn’t really recommend the original game now, because the Aftermath version is just so much better. It’s basically a complete overhaul with tons of new stuff, like new levels and a whole new class to play. World War Z: Aftermath feels like a fully polished and really satisfying co-op shooter that can go head-to-head with the best of them.

The campaign in WWZ isn’t particularly innovative, sticking to a familiar formula. Players choose from several character classes and battle through a series of episodes in various locations. Although the story isn’t very memorable – especially disappointing given its connection to a fantastic novel – the gameplay remains consistently fun thanks to the game’s huge and relentless zombie swarms. The character classes are distinct and offer diverse playstyles, letting players find what they enjoy and build effective teams.

Deep Rock Galactic

Group Up, Get In, Grab Resources, Get Old, Make Bank

Hoxxes IV is a planet filled with valuable resources, but also dangerous creatures. As employees of a powerful corporation, players explore the planet’s underground caves to mine for these resources, which inevitably attracts hostile alien life. Luckily, the dwarven characters are well-equipped to fight back with a variety of weapons and abilities. Deep Rock Galactic is a fantastic cooperative game with nearly endless replayability, thanks to its levels being randomly generated – a great example of how effective that technology can be.

Before diving into the caves in Deep Rock Galactic, you get to choose from four different classes, and each one really feels unique. I love that I can level them all up separately and switch between them to see what clicks. Honestly, while it’s fun to play solo, this game is way better with friends. It’s not just the usual ‘multiplayer is better,’ it’s that the game is clearly designed for co-op. Each class can handle things on their own, but they really shine when you’re working together with your dwarf buddies.

Halo Infinite

Not Perfect, But It Is Still Halo

The Halo series is known for its cooperative gameplay, so the initial lack of co-op in Halo Infinite was a major disappointment. While 343 Industries eventually added online co-op for the campaign, they also removed local co-op, which upset many players. Halo Infinite hasn’t been a complete win for Xbox given its rocky launch and subsequent issues, but it still has some notable achievements that deserve recognition.

Honestly, the campaign is huge and just plain fun to play. It’s not perfect – the story’s pacing gets a little wonky sometimes, and the ending felt a bit rushed – but the good stuff really shines through. I feel the same way about playing the campaign with friends online. We hit a few frustrating spots, but overall it’s amazing. It works best when we’re tackling the more straightforward missions, but even exploring the open world is a blast as long as we stay relatively close to each other.

A Way Out & It Takes Two

Local Or Online, Hazelight’s Masterpieces Need To Be Played

Hazelight Studios has created two fantastic cooperative games, A Way Out and It Takes Two, that are still worth mentioning due to their groundbreaking approach to co-op gameplay. Both games offer excellent local and online co-op options, ensuring players can enjoy them regardless of how they connect. These titles are designed specifically for two players, focusing on the stories and relationships of two characters. A Way Out puts you in the shoes of two convicts attempting a daring prison escape, exploring not just the escape itself, but also what happens afterward. The characters, Vincent and Leo, are well-developed with compelling backstories and personalities, and their interactions are a highlight. The gameplay relies entirely on cooperation, demanding players work together to succeed. While not overly challenging or complex mechanically, A Way Out excels at weaving everything together into a truly captivating narrative.

Similar to the game A Way Out, It Takes Two offers a unique experience, but with a much lighter and more playful feel. Players control a couple on the brink of divorce who are magically transformed into dolls. They must then embark on a strange and imaginative adventure, working together not only to return to normal but also to repair their relationship. Thanks to its clever story, gameplay that changes to suit each situation, beautiful graphics, and sheer enjoyment, It Takes Two could be the best co-op game available on Game Pass.

Moving Out 2

Run A Wacky Business Together

If you’re looking for a hilarious and chaotic co-op game, check out Moving Out 2. You and a friend can play together locally or online to run a moving company that tackles jobs across different dimensions. It’s a silly concept – moving furniture is already a bit crazy, but this takes it to the next level with a multiverse twist! While it sounds over-the-top for a casual game, the absurdity perfectly matches the game’s funny story and lighthearted vibe.

The main challenge in Moving Out 2 is carefully moving furniture and boxes without breaking them – and it’s surprisingly difficult! Like many great cooperative games, it can either bring you and your friends closer together or cause hilarious arguments – and that’s part of what makes it fun. This game is best enjoyed with a friend, as playing alone isn’t nearly as entertaining.

Diablo 4

Good Solo, Great Co-Op

Diablo 4 has faced some criticism, but Blizzard’s action RPG has improved since it first came out. It’s always been a good game to play with others. Playing on the same couch is probably the best way to experience it, but the online multiplayer is also great. Online, you can team up with up to four players, while couch co-op only allows two. Friends can play the entire story together, making progress as a group as long as everyone is on the same quest – the host player sets the pace.

Even though it has some divisive features, Diablo 4 offers a really compelling gameplay cycle of fighting enemies and getting loot – something many other games don’t quite capture. Playing with friends is a big part of the experience, letting you create characters that work well together, which isn’t possible when playing alone.

Pretty much every other Diablo game is on Xbox Game Pass.
