As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent battling mythical beasts and conquering virtual worlds, I must say that the Devourer of Flames in Metaphor: ReFantazio is one of the most challenging dragons I’ve encountered yet. However, with a little strategic preparation and some well-equipped party members, this fearsome foe becomes more of a campfire story than an actual obstacle.
At the end of the “ReFantazio” game, players will encounter the Trials of Dragons, where they must battle three mighty dragons, including the secret boss of the base game. One of these dragons is The Devourer of Flames, known for its challenging trick that usually makes it nearly impossible to defeat unless you’ve made proper preparations beforehand.
It’s advisable to tackle the dragon known as the Devourer of Stars last, despite its apparent greater strength, because the other two dragons will provide you with armor that significantly eases the confrontation. Here’s a guide on how to prepare for this dragon to ensure the ensuing battle goes more smoothly.
How To Prepare For The Devourer Of Flames In Metaphor: ReFantazio
In this battle, prioritizing equipment that protects against or deflects fire attacks is crucial, since every third turn, the dragon unleashes a special attack causing 9,999 fire damage, regardless of your protective buffs or shielding. There are four items of gear in total that offer protection against fire damage.
Item Name | Where To Get It |
---|---|
Cardinal Dragon Raiment |
|
Flameseal Corselet |
|
Crimson Split Shoes |
|
Cardinal Dragon Robe |

As a gamer, I always ensure that every party member is geared up with at least one item to nullify fire and resist charm, even if it throws off my build. If possible, I’d also equip gear that resists charm, but only when I can still carry the nullify fire item as well. If all party members can’t resist charm, I’ll swap in a member with Ren Patra through Skill Inheritance. Lastly, I focus on having a party member armed with Makarakarn and Dekaja (Dekunda too), while the rest of the team focuses on dealing massive damage.
This boss absorbs fire but has no other resistances or weaknesses.
How To Beat The Devourer Of Flames In Metaphor: ReFantazio
This boss can almost seem comically simple if you have a team that is immune to fire. Apart from his basic attacks, the majority of this boss’s skills involve fire and will be neutralized, immediately ending his turn. On every third turn, he’ll unleash a powerful super attack which also gets nullified. If your team has one member who isn’t immune to fire, use Makarakarn on them as a precaution and to prepare for a strong counterattack.
Just like other dragons, this boss tends to optimize its turn by focusing on attacking first. To ensure it also squanders a Turn Gauge boost for itself, continue utilizing the Dekaja ability each turn. The primary concern aside from charm is the party members potentially charming each other, causing more harm among yourselves rather than to the boss. Whenever charm appears, prioritize curing it immediately, and otherwise maximize your attack before employing your strongest attacks.
The combination of The Utilitarian’s Manual and Prince Archetype’s Royal Sword inflicts heavy damage. Performing Royal Masked Dancer’s Hellfire Dance followed by the Royal Summoner’s Summon Dragon God will additionally weaken the enemy, making it easier to attack its vulnerabilities. With adequate fire resistance preparation, this dragon battle should be the most straightforward yet.
