As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the announcement of Path of Exile 2‘s multiplayer co-op feature has me over the moon! I’ve always enjoyed the camaraderie and strategic synergy that comes with playing games with friends, from the tense moments in Black Ops to the heartwarming tag team adventures in It Takes Two.
The sequel to Path of Exile, titled “Path of Exile 2,” is aiming for the throne as the top Action Role-Playing Game (ARPG). While it’s well-known that the original Path of Exile offers cooperative and multiplayer modes, I’m here to clarify any uncertainties about Path of Exile 2’s potential co-op and multiplayer aspects. It would be great to have a companion to help conquer the game together!
2024 offers a variety of multiplayer experiences: From online shooting games like Black Ops 6, to cooperative games where you and a friend sit side by side in It Takes Two, to the challenging games that test your patience like Chained Together. Despite my strong preference for single-player games, there’s nothing quite like joining forces for some enjoyable cooperative or multiplayer action!
In terms of its design, Path of Exile 2 can cater to both single-player and multiplayer gaming experiences. While the original Path of Exile introduced cooperative multiplayer in 2013, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Path of Exile 2 will follow the same multiplayer co-op approach. We’ll have to wait and see what the developers have planned for us.
Is Path of Exile 2 Multiplayer Co-op?
Fantastic news! In Path of Exile 2, you can share the fun with others through both online multiplayer and local split-screen cooperative play. This means you can either join forces with friends over the internet or huddle up on a couch for some good old-fashioned split-screen gaming.
The confirmation comes from Grinding Gear Games itself via an official YouTube announcement trailer and the official FAQ.
Local Couch Co-op
If you look at the frequently asked questions for Path of Exile 2 regarding whether couch co-op is available during Early Access, the answer indicates that couch co-op play is indeed possible on a single account from the get-go. The second player can even create their character on this same account.
Here and now, there’s no need for patience or confusion – you can jump straight into local cooperative play with any player you prefer in this game. Notably, the “Path of Exile 2 – Console Announcement Trailer | PS5 Games” has also confirmed that couch co-op is planned for Path of Exile 2.
Online Multiplayer Co-op
Emphasizing the concept of online multiplayer and cooperative gameplay in Path of Exile 2, as highlighted in the referenced trailer, is the point that I’d like to underscore. The trailer clarifies that “Playing online multiplayer requires a PlayStation Plus membership.” Additionally, it indicates that crossplay for Path of Exile 2 will be available—meaning you and your friends can play PoE 2 without having to use the same gaming format.
