I was excited to see what free game Epic Games Store was giving away next, and they just announced it’ll be available on April 23rd! They also revealed the current free game, which is The Stone of Madness. It’s usually $30, and honestly, even though it’s only one free game this week, it seems like a really good one – better than some of the stuff they’ve given away in the past, in my opinion.
For years, the Epic Games Store has consistently offered free games every week. While opinions on the quality of the games vary, Epic’s commitment to the program is clear. New free games are released on Thursdays at 10 am Central Time, and Epic often goes above and beyond with special offers, like the larger giveaways at the end of each year. It’s a dependable way to get new games, and Epic frequently adds extra surprises.
EGS’s Next Free Game: Doomblade
Starting April 23rd, you can play Doomblade, a new 2D action game from Muro Studios and Iceberg Interactive. It’s a Metroidvania-style adventure where you play as Gloom Girl, an outsider who finds a living weapon called Doomblade. Together, they’ll journey through connected areas, battle twisted creatures, and work to restore Doomblade’s power so they can defeat the Dread Lords.
Doomblade focuses on quick, skillful movement and using weapons to get around, allowing players to attack enemies while airborne and string together powerful combos as they navigate challenging areas. Reviews for the game are generally positive (currently at 83 on Metacritic), with many players finding it becomes more enjoyable the further you get into it – a common trait of Metroidvania-style games.
| EGS Free Game | Standard Value | Free Period |

Epic Games Store Free Game Right Now: The Stone of Madness
From April 16th to April 23rd, Epic Games Store users can get The Stone of Madness for free. It’s a stealth game where you control five prisoners trying to escape a former monastery that’s now a prison and asylum. Each character has unique abilities, as well as personal traumas and fears that impact how you play and their mental state. You’ll need to manage survival, navigate patrolling guards, and maintain your characters’ sanity as you try to escape. Every attempt is different, with multiple escape routes and a changing day/night cycle. Success depends on stealth, teamwork, and keeping your characters from falling apart in this intense and atmospheric game.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.
Like always with the Epic Games Store, you have until 10 am on April 23rd to get this free game. After that, it will be replaced with the new games they recently announced. It’s a good selection overall, so if you’re looking for free PC games, you’ll probably enjoy it. And don’t worry if it’s not for you – they’ll reveal new free games next week.
