The current arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is expected to conclude the fight with Mamushi in chapter 33, and the battle has significantly impacted Sarada Uchiha. While Sarada has gained considerable strength through her Mangekyo Sharingan and its Ohirume ability, recent chapters have revealed its weaknesses. To continue growing and achieve her goal of becoming Hokage, Sarada needs to become more powerful, and it appears the story is building towards a new power boost for her. Although she likely won’t unlock the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, something even greater may be coming her way soon.
Why The Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan Is The Most Overpowered Sharingan Type
The Sharingan doesn’t appear at birth; it develops later in life. It’s awakened by a powerful emotional shock, often the loss of a loved one, but even a strong surprise can trigger it. Once awakened, the Sharingan grows stronger with both training and experiencing loss. A Sharingan with three tomoe is considered fully developed, and beyond that lies the even more complex Mangekyo Sharingan.
The Mangekyo Sharingan is unlocked through the death of someone the user deeply cares about, like a sibling. Unlike the standard Sharingan, which has similar abilities for everyone, the Mangekyo Sharingan grants each user unique powers. Typically, a user develops two different abilities – one for each eye – and also gains access to Susanoo, a powerful chakra-based humanoid, considered their ultimate technique.
Sarada Uchiha’s Mangekyo Sharingan grants her the powerful ability called Ohirume, which lets her create miniature black holes to pull in and crush anything caught within their intense gravity. However, using the Mangekyo Sharingan always leads to blindness. This is why Sarada needs to evolve her Mangekyo Sharingan further to overcome this limitation.

Breaking Down Why Sarada Uchiha Will Never Get Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan
As of the Mamushi arc in Boruto, Sasuke Uchiha is the only known ninja with the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. He unlocked his Mangekyo Sharingan after Itachi’s death and later received an eye transplant from Itachi, which gave him the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. However, it appears Sasuke will be the last to possess this powerful ability, and there are three key reasons why.
- The Uchiha clan numbers aren’t enough to have multiple Mangekyo Sharingan users.
- The Mangekyo Sharingan itself is a rare phenomenon that not many have wielded throughout history.
- Sarada Uchiha does not have anyone’s eyes to transplant in order to awaken the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
The Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan is awakened by receiving a transplant of another person’s eyes, ideally from a close family member. Sasuke gained this ability after his brother Itachi passed away, but he wouldn’t have been able to if Itachi had lived. Madara Uchiha’s situation was similar – he received an eye from his brother Izuna only after Izuna’s death. Currently, Sarada is the newest Mangekyo Sharingan user in the Boruto series, but she faces a unique problem: she doesn’t have anyone to receive eyes from. Some fans believe Sasuke might give her one of his own, but given the requirements, it’s highly unlikely Sarada will ever unlock the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
How Sakura Haruno Could Teach Sarada Byakugou To Bypass Mangekyo Sharingan Blindness in The Next Arc
Sarada Uchiha is poised to become even more powerful in future Boruto storylines now that Mamushi has been defeated. However, she’ll have to achieve this growth without relying on the abilities of the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, which might be difficult for some fans to accept. The story seems to be heading in that direction, though. One potential new skill Sarada could learn, possibly from her mother Sakura Haruno, is the Strength of the Hundred Seal (Byakugou). If Sasuke isn’t around to help, Sakura could teach Sarada this technique, allowing her to heal her eyes and recover from overuse without risking blindness.
Sarada’s found a smart solution to deal with her blindness, and fans are hoping the story’s creators agree it’s a good path forward. Right now, mastering healing abilities is her only hope of avoiding permanent vision loss. If she can’t learn to heal, her chances of becoming Hokage will likely diminish. To keep her dream alive, Sarada needs to unlock this new power, particularly with stronger enemies like Hidari appearing in the upcoming Boruto storyline, which begins after the events with Mamushi.
