As a seasoned Battlegrounds player with countless hours under my belt, let me tell you about the latest patch notes that dropped recently. It seems like PUBG Corporation is really listening to their players and addressing many of the long-standing issues we’ve been dealing with for quite some time.
A fresh update for the game “PUBG: Battlegrounds” has been rolled out, introducing a significant alteration to its Sanhok map. Now, this modification incorporates destructible terrain elements, thereby increasing the variety of strategic possibilities that players can exploit.
Even though PUBG: Battlegrounds was among the first to introduce the battle royale genre, it has remained popular even with numerous rivals entering the scene. Although PUBG no longer holds the number one spot in the battle royale world, its dedicated fanbase remains loyal due to constant updates and a unique gaming experience. The developers at PUBG Studios ensure that the game stays exciting by introducing new maps, tweaking gameplay mechanics, and offering fresh cosmetic items for players to enjoy.
The new version 33.1 update for PUBG: Battlegrounds introduces several modifications, most notably impacting the PUBG Sanhok map by incorporating destructible landscapes and buildings. Introduced in 2018, the Sanhok map has garnered both acclaim and debate among players, as various updates to the Asia-inspired tropical island PUBG map have resulted in differing opinions from the gaming community.
PUBG: Battlegrounds Patch 33.1 Makes Sanhok Destructible
In the update 33.1 for PUBG: Battlegrounds, the Sanhok map now follows the destructible changes introduced in the Rondo map with Update 29.1 from April 2024. This means that certain terrains and crucial structures within Sanhok can now be damaged or destroyed using explosives such as grenades, rocket launchers, mortars, and the Red Zone effect. The level of destruction in buildings varies depending on their material; steel and stone buildings will only partially collapse. Moreover, some trees are now susceptible to damage from explosives, making jungle cover potentially hazardous for players seeking refuge.
Alongside enhancing the destructible landscape feature, update 33.1 for PUBG: Battlegrounds brings about comprehensive visual transformations across Sanhok. This includes revamping the iconic rice field zones and tweaking various sections of the map to boost visual appeal and authenticity. The update also tinkers with gunplay mechanics, amplifying the firing rate and precision of most Submachine Guns (SMGs) to strengthen their unique characteristics. Additionally, the update introduces global modifications to the Red Zone impact, reducing its damage intensity while increasing its occurrence within the play area.
Enhancing Sanhok maps by adding more destructible landscapes solidifies PUBG‘s standing as a strong competitor among elite battle royale games. Alongside other updates outlined in the 2024 PUBG plan, players can anticipate an invigorating new gameplay experience throughout 2025 and beyond.

With Update 29.1, Destructible Terrain has been elevated in Sanhok, making it a fully destructible map! Buildings, structures, and various objects scattered across the map can now be demolished. The Destructible Terrain feature from Rondo is now also available on Sanhk, enhancing its destructibility. This addition of destruction, one of the most thrilling aspects of battlefields, is intended to offer a revitalized gaming experience and foster a more immersive and authentic environment in Sanhok. At the same time, we’ve fine-tuned item spawns to maintain the core gameplay as engaging as possible. As previously mentioned in our roadmap this year, we aim for environmental destruction to bring a new level of excitement, generate unpredictable situations, and provide novel opportunities for strategies and tactics.
GunplaySMGs
- The firing accuracy of all SMGs, except for the P90, has been increased.
Hip-Fire
- Accuracy increased by approximately 33%.
- Initial bullet spread has been improved, allowing for more precise aiming.
- This excludes the MP9 and JS9.

- Initial bullet spread has been improved, allowing for more precise aiming.
- Accuracy during sustained fire increased by approximately 60%.
- The rate of bullet spread increase during sustained fire has been reduced, enabling more stable shooting.
Accuracy While Moving
- Both hip-fire and over-the-shoulder aiming accuracy while the character is moving has been increased.
Misc.
- The weight of 9mm ammo has been reduced by approximately 20%.
In Update 33.1, we’re completing our annual adjustments by refining SMGs in their final rebalance for this year. As previously discussed, the aim is to give SMGs a distinct character while improving their practicality. To accomplish this, we’ve boosted SMG accuracy in this update, significantly enhancing both hip-fire and shoulder-fire precision. This should make SMGs more efficient in close-quarter fights and one-on-one situations. We’ve also tweaked the 9mm ammunition, which was hard to share across weapon categories and scarce in later stages of a match. By lightening its load, players should now be able to gather enough ammo even during early looting periods. After this update, we’ll keep an eye on performance data and continue our mission to create a varied and entertaining gunplay experience as we transition into the new year.
GameplayRed Zone
※ Applies to all maps where the Red Zone is generated.
- No longer generates outside the Play Area, resulting in an increased Red Zone generation rate within the Play Area.
- The damage has been reduced.
- Damage decreases the farther you are from the center of the explosion within the Red Zone.
- The Red Zone’s explosion mechanism has been changed to use missile impacts, similar to the Black Zone.
- A delay is applied to explosions when missiles hit terrain.
- A loud sound effect will play when a missile hits the ground, allowing players to anticipate the explosion.
- Explosion effects have been improved.
- Sound effects have been added and updated.
- Explosion patterns have been adjusted.
With Update 33.1, I’m excited about the changes headed to one of PUBG’s legendary special zones – the Red Zone! This zone, present in Erangel, Deston, and Sanhok, has always added an exciting unpredictability to the battlefield. Yet, its intense explosive impact has occasionally led to less-than-ideal gameplay moments for players like me. To tackle these challenges, this update concentrates on enhancing the Red Zone experience, reducing frustration, and finding a balance that makes the Red Zone suitable for various gaming modes too.
Inspect Weapon Animation
- The inspect weapon animation is now visible to other players.
- The animation will also play while sprinting.
- The inspect weapon animation for the Panzerfaust has been added.
- The inspect animations for the All-In-One Repair Kit, Tactical Pack, and EMT Gear have been removed.

Matchmaking

- Applies to Normal Match for Random Map regions, Normal Match – Quick Join for Map Select regions.
- Unavailable for the Featured Map or Casual Mode.
- Matchmaking will be canceled after a certain period of time.
- It cannot be activated simultaneously with the Win Streak Showdown.
With Update 33.1, we’re excited to roll out the much-anticipated “Same Language Squad” feature. Following our region merge, we recognized the need to address communication issues arising from team members speaking different languages. Initially, this feature will be accessible in PC normal matches. Keep in mind that the “Same Language Squad” function connects players who have opted for it, ensuring a more seamless matchmaking process as more users enable it.
Team Finder
The Team Finder feature has been revamped for a smoother experience.
- Social – Team Finder page has been removed.
- Activating the Team Finder option from the bottom-right corner of the lobby will automatically form a team with players sharing the same language, server, mode, party type, and perspective.

- Automatically deactivates once the team is full.
- Cannot be activated during matchmaking.
- Cannot be activated simultaneously with the Win Streak Showdown feature.
- (Console) The previous Team Finder feature has been disabled.
- The Team Finder page under Social and the Team Finder icon in the bottom-right corner of the lobby have been removed.
With Update 33.1, we’re making some big changes to the Team Finder tool. In the new setup, invitations and acceptances are no longer required for teams; instead, they’re formed automatically. Unlike our Same Language Team feature where teammates are paired during a match, this one allows teams to be created ahead of time. To cater to users who want to team up with players speaking their native language after the region merge, we’ll first implement this on PC for Normal Matches. We’ll keep an eye on its usage post-update before expanding it to Console platforms.
