A new leak suggests the Pokemon Trading Card Game will release a set called Pitch Black featuring Mega Evolution cards. It’s expected to come out in the summer of 2026 and is based on a Pokemon TCG expansion that was recently announced in Japan.
We’ve recently seen three smaller Pokémon Trading Card Game sets released in English that closely follow the Japanese versions. The latest, called Perfect Order, included three special promo cards and 121 total cards, and it officially became available on March 27, 2026. A fourth English set, Chaos Rising, has already been announced and will be released on May 22nd.
Pokemon TCG: Pitch Black Reportedly Adapts Japanese Abyss Eye Set Featuring Mega Darkrai ex
According to a recent report from PokeBeach, the popular Mega Evolution sets will continue with a new release called Pitch Black. This English-language set is based on the Abyss Eye expansion that was first announced in Japan on April 17th. While not all the cards have been revealed yet, Mega Darkrai ex is expected to be a highly sought-after card in the set. With its powerful Night Raid attack and the Abyss Eye ability that can instantly knock out opponents, Mega Darkrai ex has the potential to be one of the strongest ‘ex’ cards in the Pokemon Trading Card Game in a long time.
Mega Darkrai ex’s attack, Night Raid, does 110 damage and costs two Basic Darkness Energy. If you have a Pokémon on your Bench that’s already damaged, the damage from Night Raid doubles, making it a powerful attack throughout most of the game, except maybe at the very beginning. Additionally, Abyss Eye gives Mega Darkrai ex a strong, three-energy attack that can instantly knock out opponents who are already suffering from a Special Condition.

Okay, so here’s the scoop on the new Pokemon TCG set, “Abyss Eye.” It’s dropping in Japan on May 22nd, which is awesome because that’s the same day the “Mega Evolution: Chaos Rising” expansion hits shelves here in North America! According to PokeBeach, the next set, “Pitch Black,” is coming July 17th. From what we’ve seen with previous English releases, this Abyss Eye set seems like it won’t be huge, but that’s okay! The Pokemon Company just revealed a few cards, and it’s exciting. We already knew about Mega Darkrai ex, but now we’ve got Dark Bell and Malamar too. Dark Bell is a Trainer card that messes with your opponent (and you!) by confusing both Active Pokemon… unless they’re Dark-type, which is a cool little twist. And Malamar is a new take on that Generation 6 Dark/Psychic Pokemon – you’ll need to evolve Inkay to get it!

The name “Abyss Eye” for the upcoming English set isn’t a surprise, as Darkrai has long been known as the “Pitch-Black” Pokémon within the series. Following the “Pitch Black” set, the next Western release will likely be based on “Storm Emerald,” a Japanese expansion focused on Mega Rayquaza ex, which is scheduled to launch there on July 31st.
