In the world of One Piece, characters gain powers from Devil Fruits, but the author, Eiichiro Oda, also created a system called Haki to add more depth. Haki is essentially spiritual energy made visible, and everyone can learn two types: Observation and Armament. A third, rarer type called Supreme King Haki, is something people are born with – only those with the qualities of a leader can wield it.
Learning Haki isn’t automatic, and it takes effort to awaken. Still, a few characters are naturally gifted and have mastered it at a surprisingly young age.
Shanks
- Age When Using Haki: Under 14
Shanks is exceptionally skilled in Haki, a powerful ability in the world of One Piece. Few characters currently demonstrate the same level of mastery as him. He’s shown incredible techniques, such as the ability to sense and even incapacitate opponents with Haki from a distance. This impressive skill wasn’t developed overnight; Shanks began training and honing his Haki abilities very early in his adventures.
We don’t yet know exactly when Shanks developed his Haki abilities, as his past hasn’t been fully explored. However, Oda has stated that it happened when Shanks was young and still sailing with Roger. He apparently learned the Kamusari technique – which relies on a powerful form of Haki called Supreme King Haki – during his time with the Roger Pirates. Oda has described Shanks as a natural talent, and mastering advanced Conqueror’s Haki before the age of fourteen would be incredibly unusual.
Jewelry Bonney
- Age When Using Haki: 12
I’ve been watching the action on Egghead, and Jewelry Bonney is truly impressive. She’s only twelve years old, but she’s already a remarkably skilled fighter. It’s been confirmed during this arc that she’s proficient in Haki – I even saw her use Armament Haki against the Five Elders, which was pretty incredible.
It’s unknown exactly when Bonney first developed her power, but the fact she’s mastered it by age 12 indicates she likely learned it much earlier. It’s quite possible she had this ability even before the time skip. She still has significant potential for growth, and fans can expect even more impressive displays of her power in the Final Saga.

Donquixote Doflamingo
- Age When Using Haki: 10
Donquixote Doflamingo was once a member of the Celestial Dragons, a privileged class, but he chose to live among ordinary people with his family. This meant losing all of his special status, and his family quickly fell into poverty and became targets for others.
During a flashback, we see young Doflamingo, only 10 years old, instinctively unleash his powerful Conqueror’s Haki during a deeply traumatic experience with humans. This surge of power was what protected him and Rosinante from being killed. Later in life, Doflamingo fully developed and mastered all three types of Haki.
Portgas D. Ace
- Age When Using Haki: 10
I’m a huge fan of Portgas D. Ace! It’s just so tragic that he was the son of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, and ultimately died at Marineford, executed by Sakazuki. Even though he was only 20 when he passed, he was incredibly powerful. What really blows my mind is finding out he was one of the youngest characters to awaken Haki – seriously impressive!
After the tragic events at Marineford, learning about Ace’s past was just incredible! We finally got to see his childhood with Luffy and Sabo, and it turns out he first awakened his Conqueror’s Haki when he was only ten years old, during his fight with Blue Jam! It was amazing to see how naturally it came to him – he unleashed it instinctively to protect the people he cared about, even though he didn’t even understand what it was at the time. It’s so impressive that he mastered all three types of Haki before his passing.
Yamato
- Age When Using Haki: 8
Yamato is the sole child of the powerful Yonko Kaido, making them one of the most gifted individuals in the One Piece universe. They are also incredibly rare, being one of just three female characters to possess Conqueror’s Haki – and the first one we’ve seen demonstrate this ability.
Yamato developed Conqueror’s Haki at just 8 years old, making them the second youngest character to ever achieve this powerful ability and demonstrating incredible strength and promise. They further proved their skill by skillfully using Conqueror’s Haki even while restrained, as seen in their battle against Kaido. During the Onigashima raid, Yamato unleashed several potent attacks enhanced with this advanced Haki.
Kozuki Momonosuke
- Age When Using Haki: 8
Momonosuke played a key role in the Wano Arc storyline. He became a member of the Straw Hat Pirates during their time in Punk Hazard and traveled with them for a while, allowing fans to get to know him. As the son of Kozuki Oden, he was expected to achieve great things. The series One Piece revealed that he’s one of the youngest characters to demonstrate exceptional skill with Haki.
Momonosuke is still developing his Haki abilities, but he’s remarkably accurate with what he can do. He’s also demonstrated a very rare skill called the Voice of All Things – a powerful form of Observation Haki that very few people possess, including legends like Roger, Oden, and Luffy. This ability allows him to hear the voices of both living creatures and even inanimate objects, as seen when he clearly heard the voice of the giant elephant, Zunesha.
Kozuki Oden
- Age When Using Haki: 8
Kozuki Oden was an incredibly powerful character in One Piece. He nearly defeated Kaido during the flashback in Wano. Remarkably, Oden didn’t have a Devil Fruit ability; his strength came entirely from his Haki. He’s considered one of the most skilled Haki users ever, having mastered the legendary swords Enma and Ame no Habikiri by the age of eight.
To understand how impressive Oden was, consider this: Zoro is still struggling to fully control the sword Enma, but Oden had mastered it by age 8. Because Enma naturally draws out Ryuo, Oden was also able to use Haki at that young age – and he’d become skilled enough with both swords to be considered a master. This makes him not only one of the youngest Haki users ever seen in One Piece, but the very youngest character to gain complete control over his Haki.
Aisa
- Age When Using Haki: Upon Birth
Aisa is a special character in the world of One Piece because she was born with the ability to use Haki, making her the only known person with this natural talent. She played a significant role in the Skypiea arc and belongs to the Shandian tribe. Specifically, Aisa was born with Observation Haki, which her people call Mantra. She’s remarkably skilled with it – able to sense movement across the entire Skypiea Island. With further development, Aisa has the potential to become one of the strongest Observation Haki users in the series.
