In the world of Dragon Ball, the Saiyans are known as one of the most powerful races. They weren’t revealed until the Z series, when Goku’s backstory came to light, showing he was part of a nearly vanished warrior people. Though, not every Saiyan is as strong as you might think.
Let’s evaluate how each important Saiyan character fared throughout the Dragon Ball Z series. We’ll only consider events from Z – including the anime, movies, and filler episodes – and won’t factor in anything from Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Super. This means Goku’s overall record will only reflect his wins and losses within the Z timeline.
When characters merge, their combined stats will be added to each character’s history, but won’t affect anyone’s individual win rate.
11. Future Gohan – 0%
Even though Future Gohan was a really cool character that many fans liked, he didn’t have much success in his fights. Throughout the alternate future timeline, he never actually won a fight, giving him a 0% win rate. Considering the difficult circumstances he faced, this isn’t too shocking.
10. Bardock – 50%
Though Bardock wasn’t an elite Saiyan like Vegeta or his father, he was remarkably strong for a lower-class Saiyan. Despite his relatively short life, he achieved a great combat record and proved himself a formidable warrior, even if he likely wouldn’t have reached the same power level as his son. He was a respected fighter when he ultimately perished.
9. Goten – 50%
Goten often lives in the shadow of his father and brother, but he’s actually a fairly capable fighter. While he doesn’t achieve many major wins in the Z series, he still manages a solid 50% win rate. He and Trunks haven’t been as prominent in Super, but there’s potential for them to become important again.
8. Future Trunks – 50.00%
Future Trunks began as a survivor, struggling alongside Future Gohan against the powerful Future Androids. He quickly established himself as an exceptional swordsman, notably defeating both Frieza and King Cold. After training with the Z-Fighters in the present, he returned to his future and successfully defeated the Androids, and even eliminated Future Cell before he could fully develop.

7. Vegeta – 55.26%
Vegeta, the proud Saiyan prince, has won many fights, but his journey to become the second strongest character after Goku has been a bit uneven, impacting his overall record. While he’s had some amazing victories, he’s also suffered some embarrassing defeats. Despite these setbacks, he still maintains a respectable win count.
6. Gohan – 55.77%
Gohan, whether as a child or his adult form, has given fans many exciting battles, quickly becoming a popular character. While he achieved some impressive victories – including his crucial win against Cell – Gohan only won a little over half of his fights in the original Dragon Ball Z series. It’s still a respectable record, but he could have won even more if he’d focused more on training.
5. Kid Trunks – 61.54%
While Future Trunks is more well-known, young Trunks actually has a remarkably high win rate in the original Dragon Ball Z series. It’s understandable that Vegeta and Gohan have fought in more battles overall, as they’ve been characters for much longer. Though fans often debate which Trunks is stronger, it’s clear that young Trunks is a capable fighter who consistently performs well when given the chance.
4. Nappa – 66.67%
Some fans might be surprised to hear this, but despite being a powerful enemy in the Saiyan Saga, Nappa was ultimately just a typical soldier. Even so, he caused a lot of trouble for the Z Fighters on Earth. While Goku weakened him and Vegeta finished him off without much difficulty, Nappa seriously injured many of the heroes.
3. Broly – 66.67%
This discussion focuses on the original Broly from his first two films. Bio-Broly is a separate case. While the newest version of Broly could become one of Dragon Ball’s most powerful characters, it’s important to remember how strong the original movie version was. Despite losing in both The Legendary Super Saiyan and Second Coming, he was incredibly dominant throughout most of those movies and actually won a lot of his fights.
2. Goku – 68.00%
It’s no surprise that Goku, the main character of Dragon Ball and one of anime’s most famous heroes, consistently wins his battles. While he’s sometimes criticized for poor choices – like giving Cell a Senzu Bean – he’s a naturally talented and adaptable fighter who often manages to turn the tide. Despite not being invincible and having lost some fights, Goku usually comes out on top as Earth’s protector.
