As a veteran Path of Exile player with countless hours spent dodging and blocking my way through Grinding Gears Games’ expansive universe, I can confidently say that the upcoming release of Path of Exile 2 has only heightened my excitement for the franchise.
In Path of Exile 2, you’ll frequently find yourself surrounded by hordes of enemies or going head-to-head with massive bosses that unleash widespread damaging attacks. Although your primary objective is always to inflict damage, players have the ability to block or dodge incoming attacks in an attempt to evade them.
Regarding block and dodge: Shield-wielding characters have the exclusive ability to block, while dodging can be performed by any class. Dodging is an effective method to dodge incoming damage and also position yourself for a subsequent counterattack. Here’s how to execute both moves, regardless of your character class.
How To Dodge In Path of Exile 2
Once you can roam freely within the game, dodging will be one of your initial skills, easily accessible for all classes and ascended classes alike.
- Space Bar on PC
- O on Playstation
- B on Xbox
Just as with any ability, you have the freedom to customize how you bind your dodge, or even eliminate it entirely, although it’s generally not advisable. For the majority of characters, dodging serves as the primary method for evading damage due to its unique feature: there is no cooldown on this skill beyond the time your character needs to rise from a roll and then roll again. When you execute a roll, your character moves a short distance in the direction they are facing at the moment of rolling, thereby eluding all harm that extends beyond their hitbox during the roll.
You can’t roll through most enemies, so you can get surrounded and stuck.
How To Block In Path of Exile 2
For individuals opting to wield a defense, you can raise it during battles to deflect a significant amount of oncoming harm. Smaller foes’ assaults will be entirely thwarted, leaving your health and armor unscathed. Larger attacks from bosses may still be blocked partially, but their most potent strikes will find their way through the shield, causing less damage. Spells or attacks that affect an area won’t be impeded by your shield, as it only protects against incoming harm in the direction you’re currently facing.
To acquire the ability to raise a protective shield, learn the “Shield Raise” skill. This skill can be assigned for repeated usage at your convenience, but remember that your shield’s effectiveness is limited by your stagger meter, located above your bound skills. When this meter becomes full due to enemy attacks on your shield, you’ll momentarily lose control and won’t be able to evade. However, it takes several strikes from multiple enemies or numerous hits from a single enemy to fill the meter.
